There’s a fresh face in the Off Track Thoroughbred Retirement Program arena, giving former racehorses a SECOND opportunity at a SECOND career. Second Call Thoroughbred Adoption and Placement Program (registered non-profit).
Former Co-Founder/Program Director of ReRun Inc., New Jersey Chapter, Laurie Condurso-Lane and Former President, ReRun Inc. New Jersey Chapter, Jane Gilbert team up with the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association to run their Monmouth Park Racetrack After-Care Program and launch Second Call. “We have all noticed that the Thoroughbred is back and getting more popular than ever…Take a look at all of the OTTB horse shows, organizations, fans, difference makers; NTRA, TBANJ…. This is the perfect time for Second Call. All of our experiences and relationships will help build a stronger future for these amazing animals”, explains Lane.
Horse racing has a long proud history. Many champions, breathtaking moments, tears and cheers, have all stemmed from the sport. Once a career ends there must be a new “calling” for the Thoroughbred. Some former ReRun volunteers share their thoughts. “What a thrilling time and opportunity. We are all about the horses. The more Thoroughbred retirement programs there are, the better the odds for the horses to find homes…it is also wonderful to be a part of something from the very beginning,” shares Director of Marketing, Tatiana Verenicin-Chan. “Helping the horses, see them find new homes and grow means everything…they are precious animals and they deserve the best from all of us, says Eliza Scheurman, Social Networking Director. And as Marilyn Haegele, Website Manager/Online Specialist states, “Because of our tighter focus we can collectively provide the dawn of a new era in horse rescue.”

Second Call, founded in 2012, is a registered nonprofit Thoroughbred Adoption and Placement Program dedicated to New Jersey’s off track Thoroughbreds. Serving as the exclusive After Care Program for Monmouth Park the mission is to assist, and ensure that retired racehorses find a SECOND calling/profession. Thoroughbreds accepted into the program are rested, evaluated, re-acclimated, retrained and placed into loving homes.
