The 2013 North American Junior & Young Rider Show Jumping Championships sponsored by USHJA as part of the 2013 Adequan FEI North American Junior & Young Riders Championships begins July 17 with five days of intense competition among the elite young athletes from around the globe, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Columbia and Guatemala to name a few.
The North Regional Championships took place on September 4-7, 2013 for Zones 1, 2 and 5 at HITS-on-the-Hudson VIII in Saugerties, NY and concluded to rave reviews from competitors and spectators alike. USHJA thanks the managers and program supporters who helped make this program’s inaugural season a success.
Congratulations to the winners of the North Regional Championships. In the Children’s Team competition it was Chef d’Equipe Mary Goldman leading Team Illinois members Caelinn Leahy, Louisa Brackett, Sarah Scarnechia and Grace Knox to a golden victory.
The Children’s Individual medal competition saw 20 of the region’s best go for the gold, but it was 12-year-old Ava Stearns of Chilmark, MA and mount Denmark who topped the podium. Olivia Greenwood and Big Boy of Montauk, NY accepted the silver and Grace Knox with Rapidash from North Barrington, IL took the bronze.
From the Adult Amateur Teams, it was New Jersey with Chef Robin Fairclough guiding members Tammy Kelly, Katherine Pontone, Elizabeth Kirby and Wendy Chapot Nunn to a gold medal win.
In the Adult Amateur Individual Medals, Lexi Maounis and mount Whisper of Greenwich, CT accepted the gold. Wendy Chapot Nunn and Face Value of Neshanic Station, NJ received the silver and the Brewster, NY duo of Nicole Crighton and Zipp were awarded the bronze.
The West Regional Jumper Championship will close out the premiere season on September 24-29, 2013 at the Sacramento International Welcome Week in Rancho Murieta, CA. USHJA wishes all the competitors a great ride.
