I wonder if anyone here has experience riding with Jan Ebeling. He is coming to my area this spring for an expo called the Mane Event and I'm thinking about applying to be demo student. I'll be showing Prix St. George this spring for the first time.
Has anyone here ridden with him. What is his style? What kind of students benefit most from riding with him? Generally I don't like riding with anyone I haven't seen coach but I'm wondering if he is worth taking a chance on. Thanks for any feedback you can give me. Please PM me if your feedback is very negative. |

I rode in a USDF Adult clinic with him three years ago. He was wonderful. He was very classical. I was riding a six year old that was third level. If I had the opportunity to ride with him again I would.

He has training videos on dressageclinic.com. Might be worth the monthly fee to check him out.

This past weekend there was a CDI at the LA Eq Ctr, which, because of the drenching rains on Friday night and Saturday, was collapsed from three rings to two, all crammed in to the Equidome along with the only warm up. There was no place to lunge, so the horses were all slightly unruly, or downright spooky. A friend and I were watching the I1 class, very nice horses and riders, but in the warm up at the far end was a man riding a very relaxed and beautiful horse. Despite how far away he was relative to the ring in front of us, we couldn't take our eyes off the horse. We wandered over to see who it was, and it was Jan Ebeling schooling Rafalca. Just a beautiful horse and rider combination, so lovely to watch.
A few weeks ago, we had a similar event, the Equine Affaire. Jan was the dressage clinician. In one clinic, he taught two riders, one a GP rider and the other PSG, both ammies. In the afternoon session, he schooled another mare, Sandrina, and talked as he rode. It was excellent, and he is also rather witty. I would say sign up quickly! ![]()

Beautiful combo. Very elegant. She's by Sandro Hit and she has the wow factor. Believe they won the PSG or I-1 in Thermal.
During the warm up for the class, another rider was also warming up. Jan rode quietly and effciently. The other professional (on a horse I know) was IMHO unnecessarily overriding. Very short neck, really cranked back, tense. I had never seen the horse being ridden like that by his owner. Once in the ring, each rider's test mirrored what went on in the warm up.

Were you in the Dressage clinic at last year's event? If not, I really recommend signing up, even if you're on the fence about the clinician! It was a lot of fun, and the demo riders were treated really well at the event.
I am only a beginner, and Jan Ebeling isn't taking any, so I am just going to watch this year. Mette Rosencrantz was fantastic last year, and drew an incredible crowd! There was even a Western demo next door, and people were migrating over to watch her clinic with the advanced riders. She had a beginner session with myself and another rider demo-riding, it was really valuable to me, I use what I learned every time I ride!
