14 yo TB gelding that retired from the track September 2008. Since I have gotten him, he has kind of told me he wants a slower job than the one I planned on giving him (low level eventing). He just doesn't seem comfortable/ or want to jump. He has the best brain I have ever seen on a TB. The woman who got him from the track was using him as a therapy horse for autistic kids not too long after she brought him home.
I can't say enough how safe he is, classy horse. Good to work around. I can give this guy a month off, hop on him and hack him away from the barn with no problem. I have a small farm (4 horses), and herdboundness always seems to have been at least a small issue for most of the horses I have had here. I have never had him spook at anything. He does have limited flexion in both ankles evenly, which is totally expected for the long career he had. I did have him on CortaFlx Rx when I was riding him more, and he did seem more comfortable on it. He does crib but is controlled with a strap. He is not a horse that can just be kicked out and ignored until someone wants to ride him. He is a typical TB, he does need groomed regularly. He lives in a fairly wet field and does tend to get fungus on his legs because of that. He is a chow hound, will eat as much hay as you give him! I call him the trash compactor! He eats about 5# TC Complete a day with some oil added. I am sharing the good and the bad because I want the perfect home for him, and I want it to be permanent. I am just as happy to keep him here rather than send him somewhere I am unsure about. It has to be a perfect fit for me to send him on. Please send a PM if you would like to chat further about him! Would like for him to stay within a few hours of SE PA, but will make an exception if you have a good case! A few links about Rudirudy- http://oceanportracingreport.com/Oce...cSorley%202002 http://www.horsetalk.co.nz/news/2008/09/103.shtml I did forget that he is 16.1-2ish. Just this weekend he took a complete adult beginner on his first trail ride, while he hung off one side... ![]() This guy is a saint in a pretty bay suit...

This is where I really wish I was in a position to get a horse, he sounds like he might be a great match. (I'm a junior in college, so getting a horse at this point would be totally irresponsible since I don't know where I'll be when I graduate or what the job market will be like.)
I'm a re-rider, so when I start looking it'll probably be for something that could handle some low-level dressage, relaxed hacking/trail riding, and being fussed over horribly. (In the petting/grooming/hanging out together way, not the crazy NH-games way. ) Sounds like that's the kind of thing he could handle. At least I can bump him up, so more people see him. ![]() |

OhGodohGodohGod....
OK, so anyone want a Saddlebred? ![]() What a LOVELY horse. He is straight up my alley and I'd give anything if I could take him... But it would be seriously irresponsible of me to try to take on another - my budget is for one horse at a time. Where's that winning lottery ticket when you need it? BUMP. Don't let this guy get away!!! |

OH heavens!! I know he's a gelding and it doesn't matter, but he's tail female to Lavendula--twice. She was the dam of Ambiorix and also the dam of Brown Sugar. One of the greatest sport horse mare lines in TB history.
http://www.pedigreequery.com/rudirudy I'd love to have him in my barn, just to drool over him. He's proof that really fine breeding will out. He is GORGEOUS! And would make a perfect 3rd field hunter for me. Alas, I have far too many horses. ![]()

This guy is searching for his 4-ever person to love, care for and have some real fun with. He wants that human bond connection. What a wonderful opportunity for that perfect match. I know his person is at there seeking him too....

Stacey,
Have you found a home for Rudy yet? If not, would you mind if I crossposted your post on the VAHorses email list group? I sure hope he can find his forever home by Christmas; he sounds and looks like a wonderful guy! ![]()
