    Then why ask????

I believe that horses are smarter than beef cows (having both as pets). Pigs are way smarter than either. But I eat meat. As long as the horse is treated humanly (minimal stress) in the trailering from the auction and during the entire time at the slaughter house, how can I say that I do not think that slaughter is okay? That would be hypocritical. All animals should be treated with respect. If you eat meat you should know what it takes to get the animal to your table (I was an animal science major at UConn - you learn this stuff and my friend has an organic farm with sheep, chickens, and pigs - so please do not say I don't know).

Unfortunately, things are not always done how they are supposed to. That is what should be prosecuted.

But the poll options are too vague. How can we not discuss it?

Do keep in mind: most people fighting to end horse slaughter in America are fighting for more than the end of converting an already dead equine carcass to meat.

There are also special circumstances where almost anyone would eat horsemeat, eg you're starving to death, no other food is available, and a case of canned horsemeat washes ashore on your desert island.

If you are really looking for a true poll, you are asking in the wrong place here, that has a very strong bias towards one side of this issue.
I assume you are from that side, since the loaded results here will obviously please that side of these issues.

Those questions on COTH is like asking only kids under 5 about Santa, which will give you very predictable results.

Not really, Bluey. Right now it's 54%-45% in favor of slaughter.

Well, I have been wrong before.
I was going by the many posters that take turns on COTH jumping on me, when I dare say anything about this, when what they say doesn't make much sense to me.

Makes me feel like a sitting duck, even if my name refers to the little blue birds that migrate thru here every spring and fall, that don't look at all like a duck.

I think this poll will pretty much show what I've seen and heard most my life the vast majority are not against slaughhter at all. As with most things when one side or the other takes " poll " they make sure they poll people or areas that will show what they want. At least an open one like this will be honest for the people here on COTH.

60% pro and less then 40% anti. So if the anti groups keep going on about how the vast majority of the public is anti slaughter. And how this forum is very much anti slaughter how come this poll doesn't come close to showiung that? Sure makes one wonder how accurate any of their info really is.

I don't know that you can call the "in certain circumstances" choice a clear "pro" choice. I suspect many folks who voted there would support it if only lame, old or truly unwanted horses went to slaughter or perhaps IF (a big IF) the industry was somehow cleaned up to make it non abusive and to get a better process in place. Too many shades of gray and not a black and white choice at all.

How much ya wanna bet if the voting was clearly anti slaughter you never would have said that? I'd say if nothing else this sure could indicate its hardly the cut and dried thing anti slaughter groups want people to beleive.

Lets at least be honest about it for a change.

Um, county and others, you might want to take a minute from your gloating and re-check the numbers on this poll.
Why start this train again? The same people keep saying the same things and clearly nothing is going to change. I'd rather go muck a stall, but yall have fun.

Oh, yes, a poll on a bulletin board is a great place to pull scientific and statistically significant data

The only thing you can learn from this poll is exactly what is in the poll and you cannot make any assumptions about all the people who did not vote, which is only the vast majority of the people alive.

I would now like to propose that in place of euthanasia, we open up slaughterhouses for cats and dogs and we can then send that meat overseas to feed people in developing countries. After all, they're just animals, it is such a waste of good meat and we'll get bonus points as a country for being philanthropists.

Why? Because it is a board that is "pro-horse"? So you'd agree that people who are concerned about what is best for horses/pro-horse/horse lovers, would naturally be more likely to be anti-horse slaughter?

Not gloating at all and what numbers should I recheck?

I agree with Zevida a poll here isn't really going to prove a great deal other then what the people on COTH think. And the polls taken in Ca. and all these other ones are pretty much meaningless also for the same reasons she mentioned.

As far as selling cats and dogs for meat. I got no problem with it better then killing them by the millons, grinding them up and boiling them down to put in soap and dyes.

    Define being pro horse.

Many for the proposed misguided slaughter ban are definitely not pro horse, only wishfully for an ideal, ignoring that there are no provisions for the unwanted horses, other than hoping animal control and rescues will chime in in sufficient numbers to absorb those horses.

What a way to think they are pro horse!
