The lighthearted humor went bye bye a long time ago.

Say something in 4 words....designed to goad and polarize....not a fun forum game.
Then start some threads that are light hearted and humorous.

If you build it, they will come.....

I agree, if you don't want the OT thread, then just do NOT open it!! As simple as that, why you feel the need to decide what everyone should do, is just strange.

Kinda like you play by my rules or I am taking my ball home! LIFE does NOT work that way. People should have the choice to decide for themselves!!

I agree w/Lady, YOU are one that pushes snark to make her "points", so basically, are the type of person that you are using to promote losing this section.

Pot meet kettle, just ignore this section, Life WILL continue..... jmo

Funny, not one right leaning member has taken offense to the "4 words" conservative thread, yet several left leaning members don't like what they read on the "4 words" liberal thread and bam! Shut down the entire OT forum. Good Lord...

I love the OT forums. Just don't open the threads you don't like. Whatever forum or message board you visit, here or elsewhere, I guarantee there will be at least one thread you (general you) won't like.

The political threads get heated but I generally don't participate. Ultimately it's just a bunch of Internet ransoms arguing their opinions. It's not like the conversations hold weight. The government won't change because of an argument on COTH - why take it seriously?

Meh. I rarely read this forum. Sometimes, like tonight, when there's not much going on in the horse-related fora, I'll glance at this one.

So if a permanent OT section gets more hits and that helps finance the "real" parts of the COTH fora, I'm all for it! I just won't be here much, is all.

When OT was only once in a while, it was a lot more entertaining. But then, COTH used to be a lot more entertaining - many of our great wits are rarely seen anymore. I guess all good things must come to an end.

I still learn stuff on the horse-related fora, though, so I stick around.

I like the forum. Due to lots of circumstances, I can't ride at this point in my life. But I still come here and enjoy reading about shows and clinics, seeing pictures, surfing the dog forum, etc.

There are some really interesting, insightful and intelligent people here. I enjoy reading most of the topics, though I'm not a huge poster. I've gotten excellent advice recently. It's like having access to a huge group of (generally) objective people who are willing to weigh in on topics. I'm impressed with how thoughtful so many are. Sometimes thoughtful strangers are the best for telling you "check yourself girl, you sound crazy." A lot of friends won't!

I avoid all political threads. But in general, I avoid talking politics with friends, family, my SO, anyone. It never goes well.

That's funny, Alagirl, b/c your snark directed directly at me was part of the reason I stepped away from this board over the last few weeks. But I didn't recommend that the mods shut the whole thing down; it's clearly working well for a lot of people who don't choose to fight all the time.

Permanent OT on Coth is the best thing to happen to the internet.

None of the contentious threads (usually political) could go anywhere if the "other side" didn't engage. I mean, you could have a bunch of "yeah, I agree, x is the downfall of the country" posts but it'd peter out quickly.

Now, could you condense that down into four words?

count me in for OT forum!
I hope people can agree or disagee and it doesn't bleed over ("Mary doesn't like porn and I do so I won't help her with her foundered pony") because I also like learning more about COTH'ers and there is so much wisdom here!

I also just avoid the highly contentious topics if I don't feel like sparring!

Yes! In the immortal words of Dr. Thomas Sowell, "What is ominous is the ease with which some people go from saying that they don’t like something to saying that the government should forbid it. When you go down that road, don’t expect freedom to survive very long."

Perhaps we should start pushing our COTH mods to public service. The guvner and such!

I don't participate or read that much anymore on the OT forum for just this reason - it was bleeding over for me.

I'm not having a problem with this forum at all. I click on the links I want to read, and then move on. Sometimes I post, often I don't. Whatever. It would be a shame to see it go.
