She's already at over 5000 likes on their FB page.

The reply from the magazine was ridiculous. That was all you could say? Not even offer money to the charity they sponsor?

I like the first comment on the article

"Am I the only man tired of women talking crap about other women? How about building each other up instead of putting each other down. If you can run a marathon, with or without cancer, that's an accomplishment!"

I hope Self magazine publishes a sincere apology in their magazine with an article explaining the woman's reason for wearing the tutu and how here tutu company supports cancer patients.

All the 'trendy or tragic', 'hot or not', etc sections in women's magazines are pretty toxic, IMHO.

Dear Self: If you have a BS meter, perhaps apply it to the fact that, whatever you claim, you do ridiculously airbrush and photoshop your "naturally fit" cover models, then you can worry about what sort of ways people like to make running fun? Sheesh, the costumed marathoners (my friend has a Captain America USO Girl running outfit, why yes, she IS doing the Avengers half-marathon at Disney) must give them fits. Even if this woman DIDN'T have cancer, god forbid people who are seriously athletic not dress is high-tech super-serious very expensive labels.

Aside from the offensive way that the picture was used, is it possible that no one at Self magazine has ever heard of The Tutu Project? That's the first thing that crossed my mind when I heard that she was running a marathon in a tutu.

I hadn't heard of it until this ruckus but I've seen photos of many women running marathons in those, so I just assumed it was another weird and quirky marathon runner thing.

At the Disney Princess Half Marathon, you are hard pressed to find someone without one. Man or Woman.

I also thought their apology, such as it was, was lame. They ought to have bought up a truckload of tutus.

I think it's especially heinous considering that the runner is a cancer survivor, but it would have been an inappropriate comment regardless. Making fun of women athletes? This is funny or clever why?
