Default Who would YOU pick as 2013 Horse and Horseman of the year?

    Hi all!

We're busy putting together the Chronicle's annual American Horses in Sport issue, which reviews the previous year and names horses and horsemen of the year in each discipline.

We've made our picks, but we're wondering... who would you choose? And why?

I came up with so many choices for each, and I don't have a single reason why other than personal love and favoritism!

Agreed, Cylana and Reed for sure.

Hunter horse? Brunello, long overdue. Hunter rider? No idea.

Hunter Horse of the Year - Brunello

Hunter Horseman of the Year - Liza

Show Jumping Horse of the Year - Blue Angel (I have a major crush on that mare)

Show Jumping Horseman of the Year - Beezie
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

    Jumper rider, Beezie hands down.
Jumper horse I'm not sure, maybe Rothchild? He's shown so much versatility in all types of events. ETA Blue Angel after the last response, I love that horse too.

Hunter horse Brunello definitely. Honorable mention to Quotable, who seems to win every class he does.
Hunter rider also not sure... Liza Boyd's had a bombshell year, and Tori has too.

    Jumper rider -- Beezie
    Jumper Horse --Cylana

Hunter Horse -- ? Brunelli was good when he showed, but I do not know if he did enough to win.
Hunter Rider -- Scott Stewart might be named. But I would never vote for anyone who has been found using drugs like he has. IMO, any violation of the USET drug rule should automatically take the trainer/rider out of contention for any big awards. Naming him horseman of the year means that TPTB are allowing people like him to break rules and still be looked up to. He is not my kind of role model.

    Jumper Rider - Kent Farrington
    Jumper Horse - Rothchild

I'm using the top of the USEF List for the last 12 months, but I would have named Kent and Rothchild anyway.

Jumper horse- Simon! Winning the World Cup is a good endorsement
    Jumper rider- Beezie
    Hunter horse- Brunello
    Hunter rider- Liza

Eta- Reed had a great year but was inconsistent. Beezie's win at the WC should cement it for her.

Beezie and Simon for sure, what is better than winning the World Cup in a non-Olympic year? Brunello and Liza in the hunters.

if they are looking for a younger winner then I would pick Katie Dinan or Lucy Davis. Reed has had a good year but these two young women had similar accomplishments and they did it while being full time college students as well!

Hunter Rider- Liza Towell (but I grew up with her, so I'm a bit biased!!)

    Default Hunters

I think it would be hard to decide between John French (winning the WCHR challenge an unprecedented third time (that is truly difficult) and Liza Boyd (winning the derby finals and WCHR pro finals).

Lillie Keenan had an amazing year (if COTH groups the equitation in with hunters); winning two equitation finals and many hunter accolades should put her in the mix.

I didn't even think of Lillie but she would be a great choice, she excels in equitation, hunters and jumpers.

In that case, I think Tori would be a better choice for top hunter rider. Top hunter, if equitation counts then yes, Lillie should definitely come out on top.

Katie Dinan? No. If it was between Reed and Katie, Reed has been there, danced every dance. She has been pretty consistent as far as making the top ten, etc. I'm happy for Katie for doing so well and going to Harvard, but while she has been sitting in school, Reed has been out there. Reed vs Beezie? It doesn't seem like Beezie has been out there as much, but whenever she is, she dominates, no doubt about it. Beezie would probably be the logical choice.

Can't decide between Beezie and Kent. Love Beezie... but Kent put on so many huevos-to-the-wall jumpoff performances this year, he deserves recognition. And Leslie Burr should win for Best Performance by a Senior.
