The trainer emails you and says "I'm not going to lie, I didn't do much today" and you email back and say "I didn't expect you to!!!"

When you carry water jugs from the house to the barn and the caps are frozen by the time you get there...

When the forecast daytime high is for -20C (-4F) and you think, "That's not too bad; I can handle that".

When your olive oil changes to a weird solid substance in the cupboard (??!) (at least I think that's from the cold!).

When you take the wheelbarrow out to dump the manure - only to find it is frozen in place and hardly any of it will dump out :-/ (that happened this morning!)

When cleaning stalls is easier because the manure is frozen solid and the urine has evaporated leaving very little wet.

As for Arcadien above, you soon learn to leave the freshly dropped manure sit for a litte while. Then it won't freeze in the wheelbarrow!

When your horses in Florida are wearing their super heavy blankets with their hoods in the middle of the day!
Nine out of ten times, you'll get it wrong...but it's that tenth time that you get it right that makes all the difference.

When you have frost collecting on the interior of your doors and windows, your pipes burst, you dishwasher and washing machine freeze, and it's too cold to even consider walking the dog. When your horses have teeny icicles on their eyelashes, and when you are blanketing your fat hairy Connemara pony

When your hay dunking horse's whiskers freeze.

Although it's getting up to 13F here today--I almost feel bad complaining!

when the wimpy golden retriever runs from the barn to the house and at the door, rolls over onto his back and starts crying because his feet hurt so badly...

happened this am - yes, he's lived up here his whole life.

Your truck driver's side door freezes shut as you drive to the barn (all of 12mi)... Luckily I was still flexible enough in all my layers to climb over to the passenger side and get out. It was still frozen shut 6hr later after chores were done...

We love doing this during cold snaps!

I know it's really cold out when the dog who usually spends 10 minutes sniffing out the perfect spot to crap does his business in about 30 seconds or less.

Sounds like my little girl. Amazing how fast she can urinate and defecate.

I thought this caption under the photo of a bison lying down on its chest was funny:

"Ron the bison appears completely unfazed by the snow and frigid temperatures at Brookfield Zoo."

Funny, because what would Ron look like if he were fazed by the weather? Pretty much the same, I would think.
