I think he's getting his own show.

    Yep -- HBO

The bad news: Emmy-award winning comedian John Oliver is leaving The Daily Show, where he’s been serving as a correspondent since 2006.The good news: He’ll be moving to HBO for a brand-new topical comedy series, slated to launch in 2014. The show will air weekly on Sunday nights.
Oliver caught the cable giant’s eye this summer, when he spent two months filling in for Daily Show host Jon Stewart. “We weren’t otherwise searching for another weekly talk show, but when we saw John Oliver handling host duties on The Daily Show, we knew that his singular perspective and distinct voice belonged on HBO,” said HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo said in a statement. “We are extremely excited that John has agreed to make HBO his home.”
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining HBO, especially as I presume this means I get free HBO now,” Oliver added. “I want to thank Comedy Central, and everyone at The Daily Show for the best seven and a half years of my life. But most of all, I’d like to thank Jon Stewart. He taught me everything I know. In fact, if I fail in the future, it’s entirely his fault.”
According to the Mayan calendar, the world will not end this week. Please plan your life accordingly.

I loved that Jon Stewart pranked him by making John Oliver think they were doing a different bit, then showed a highlight reel. That was very cute. I'm not generally a fan of pranks, but that one was the exception.

If they put it on back to back with Veep, that would be delightful.

I am sooooo sad!!!! I love John Oliver. The only thing that made me feel slightly better was playing the Carlos Danger music at the end of the bit. *siiiiigggghhhhhhhhhh*

Loved it, got choked up, then laughed out loud. So sweet. He will be missed.

Noooo! Why do all the great ones leave the Daily Show? Of course, I am glad there is now a Colbert Show, but John Oliver was one of my faves too. I don't want to get HBO.

    Yes.

ETA: It's the middle segment of the 12/19 episode.

Darn. I too won't be doing the HBO thing. I do enjoy John Oliver's part in the show as well!

Caught it totally by accident but so glad I did! It will be interesting to see how his HBO show turns out. I do have to say that HBO has always done a spectacular job in creating/casting shows.

Darn, I just couldn't stay up long enough to watch - off to FB to find the show.
I love Jon - he is just the right combination of tough, smart, funny and also kind and sensitive. I love it when he gets emotional too.
I like John Oliver best of the correspondents - and it is another reason to be glad I have HBO.

I saw it and laughed, then cried, then laughed some more. I was hoping he'd get his own show ever since he subbed in, but it was sad to see him say goodbye!

Jon Stewart must get very close to his correspondents. That must be a wonderful place to work.

A great tribute. Not often done in this day and age.
