I just read Carol Hofmann Thompson recently passed. My thoughts and prayers with her and all of her family.
When I was thirteen, (some time ago), my Aunt asked me to hold a horse for her friend while she walked the course. The horse was Salem and the very nice lady was Carol Hofmann. She would not remember me from that meeting, but I remember what a nice lady she was to me - just a child. Over the years I met Mrs. Thompson several times - my first impression as a child was correct. She was always a lady, generous, and a wonderful rider.
Our sport and the community as a whole has lost an important member.

As a pre-teen in the 1960's it was a great thrill watching her compete her horses, especially the wonderful Salem, at Piping Rock and MSG. I remember her showing Out Late in the green working hunters at Piping Rock before moving on to the jumpers. What a truly great all around rider and horsewoman. My condolences to her family.
You are welcome. And yes, it was. One of the wise men she left behind said, "If you were lucky enough to have known Carol Hofmann Thompson, then you were lucky enough." I profoundly feel that is true. My heart breaks both for her family and her two- and four-legged friends
