    Default FYI Cracker Barrel

FYI, Cracker Barrel is pulling Duck Dynasty merchandise from its shelves. Patronize them or not. Discussion not needed.

I'd like to see all Duck Dynasty merchandise pulled simply because it has gone too far. There are DD Chia Pets at my local Walgreens and Bass Pro is flooded with the stuff. It's gotten stupid.

Cracker Barrel has come a looooong way in 20 years. In the nineties they fired all of their openly gay employees as well as any they thought might be gay.

I may not agree with Cracker Barrel (marginal food but Mrs. Trakehner likes it so will go to one once a year when traveling)...but I give them credit for having the courage of their convictions.

I agree with the DD products being everywhere and a bit excessive.. and every store has the right to support or not support someone based on their own personal beliefs as do the DD stars have the right to voice their own personal opinions. Vicious circle

I didn't realize they had changed that policy. Good to know. It's a moot point, since I don't have one anywhere near me, but still.

Change is also known as adapting or learning, depending on how you look at it.

I agree that Cracker Barrel has the right to pull any merchandise out of their stores for any reason.

Just to add to the FYI:

Duck Dynasty merchandise profits A&E and is their trademark, not the Robertson family.

Duck Commander merchandise remains on the shelves, and profits the Robertson family as it is their brand.

So, I look at this as Cracker Barrel taking more of a stand against A&E.

Yeah, let's pull all Batman stuff too!

That makes more sense, because here it seems Cracker Barrel is where many go before or after church.
I didn't see how CB would in any way offend their patrons by in any way seeming to be pro-gay in these debates.

As a business geared to the general public, you have to either keep debatable topics out of your PR, or live with some consequences.

I think that, if you serve food to the general public, you really should not care who is gay or not, any more than you would not serve, say, black or fat or neon green haired people.
That should not be part of your PR at all.

Since this is a free country, you can be as bad with your PR as you wish.

Agreed. A&E has even been promoting the show to children through school supplies, t-shirts, action figures, games, and other crap. It's just tasteless.

I go to Cracker Barrel periodically and I haven't seen any DD or Duck commander stuff at the local restaurant. I'll take a look next time I go. I do like to buy a few ornaments after Christmas. When the seasonal stuff goes on sale it brings the prices from "OMG you've got to be kidding me" down to OK, that's reasonable and it will look good on the tree next year.
