He is worth the added weight. It gives you more time to come up with a suitable name!

My daughter wants to call him Owen, I was thinking of Jasper. I have a feeling my daughter might win. We thought about keeping Jed but..... everyone is kind of "me" about it!

That is so funny! One of my best client's (dog) is named Jasper. I hadn't ever really heard that name before and now I seem to be hearing it all the time. I don't think even Jed likes the name Jed but that could be my bias shining through! Here is Jasper today on the right side of the photo.

Oh my what a cute puppy pic!!! My childhood cat was named Jasper.... more dog than cat really, and just the coolest dude. I normally don't recycle names but he's been gone a long time and I thought it might be good juju. I have a feeling my DD might win out with Owen though!

Wait until you get to know him a bit. He will tell you what his name is. I do like Owen though.

Sitting in the barn parking lot at 4:26am in 20 degree weather waiting for the trailer..... clearly, us horse people are nuts!

I love the name Jasper, but then again, I also loved the name Jed. Owen is OK. Sometimes you just have to wait a while and get to really know the horse's personality before a barn name comes up for them.

Good luck waiting, I'd be on pins and needles. Hope you did get a few hrs of sleep before he gets here.

    He's here, he's here!

I didn't sleep a wink, worried I would miss the hauler texting me that he was getting close! I finally gave up and drove to the barn at 4am. He arrived just after 5 and was cool as a cucumber-- the hauler really liked him and said he was a perfect gentleman. He didn't have a drop of sweat on him and wasn't a bit worried. He let out the cutest little whinny!

I took off his boots and let him get acquainted with his stall, then stuck around long enough to make sure he was eating and drinking ok. He really was totally non-plussed about the whole thing and figured out quickly that I would dispense treats.

I came home to catch a few Zs but am still too excited, so will be heading back out there soon.

I took a big gamble and bought Jed sight unseen-- but honestly couldn't be happier with him and his demeanor. I breathed a big sigh of relief when he got off the trailer! He is a 9 year old, 16.1hh TB gelding. His JC name is Civil Hero. He trained but never raced, and according to a friend who did a little digging on his JC name, Mid-Atlantic pulled him out of New Holland when he was 3. He has spent the rest of his life at an eventing barn in MD and I have plans to pursue dressage, lower level eventing and hunter paces. His owner is just lovely and has been really wonderful throughout the whole process.

Thanks all for sharing in my excitement!!! Few "normal people" can understand the thrill of having a horse arrive in the dead of night, lol.
