Default Peep Crisis! - pic pg 12 of Ted the Peep Ho

I may have created a monster!

Not every year, but usually I'd buy some peeps and Ted and I would share. This year I started early and we've been doing 3-4 peeps a night (this is like free basing but we don't set them on fire).

Now that Easter is over, now that I can't buy any more, now that we only have 5 boxes of whit chix in reserve...Ted would not eat baby carrots, the very expensive juicy kind I rip off after the grad students have finished their lunch with the seminar speaker (yes, other people take soda, or sandwiches, I take leftover baby carrots for Ted). He has now shown a decided preference for peeps instead of bananas and carrots...and last night, he sniffed suspiciously at a molasses/oat treat and finally chewed it...but it wasn't what he wanted. When he sees me coming out of the tack room with a peep in my hand, he starts licking his lips and is completely focused on the peep.

What do I do when the last chick is gone? Will he need therapy?

I never knew peeps were this addictive. Maybe I can incorporate this into my drug abuse studies...but using an equine model system would be so prohibitively expensive!

    Default Give Ted his Peeps!

You have absolutely no excuse not to give the poor dear what his heart and tummy most desire: Peeps are available all year long, according to the website!

Do you think they'd think I was weird if I ordered a case...or maybe have a standing order...do you think they'd do "Peep 'O the Month" Club? And Ted could be a charter member?

I am nuts to even consider this...

    I wrote them:

"I have a 14 yr old Thoroughbred who loves peeps (he is given only the white chix or yellow bunnies). I bite the heads off them first for him so that he is not eating live ones, as he is a vegetarian.

Sadly, Easter is over, we have 5 boxes of white chix in reserve, and my horse Ted is REFUSING to eat any other treats including healthy (bananas, carrots) and not (molasses horse treats) except for peeps.

I am worried he will go into severe depression, and may try to buck me off, should the peep offerings cease. Can I purchase them through your site? I will have to have them sent to my place of work, because if they are sent to the barn, the barn owner may pull me aside for "a little talk."

    Thanks for your help."

The sad thing is, we'd clean out a 15-chix package a night if we didn't have some discipline. He even gets annoyed if I try and pull a peep apart so he gets 2 bites, because I put the half on top of his grooming box and he will stare at it until it is offered to him. I figure he's 1200 lbs, and a 4-5 peep limit should be okay (that's 5 heads for me, which I suspect comes in at just under 100 calories).

Is there a Peeps Anonymous? My name is DressageGeek, and this is Ted, and we have an addiciton to Peeps....

    Default Sign him up...

for the Official Peeps Fan Club! And order a few cases for each official Peeps season: Valentines, Easter, Halloween, and Christmas! It's the least you can do for the guy! If you limit his intake to half a dozen or so Peeps a day and make sure there's no place he can squirrel away extras, you shouldn't have to worry about enabling his addiction! You might want to schedule a few extra visits from the dentist each year, though!

Actually, both my dad and I are Official Members...maybe Ted needs to be one as well. I can send them a photo of Ted wearing his Official Peep Cap. If he'll let me.

AHHHHH, for want of a Peep. Well, tell him he has 2 options. He can relocate to PA, we live in Just Born country, where he can have a year round unlimited supply of the sweet treat or he can send me his address and I will gladly see that my herd sends him some. Peep withdrwal is a horrible thing to watch so I suggest that he acts quickly.

BUT DO THE RED ONES WORK LIKE VIAGRA????

Oh, my poor Geek, I feel your pain. I have 4 pkgs of the singles in the freezer and one in the truck (did you know that to get the max benefit, stick them in a hot truck, under the seat for 24 hours. They don't melt-scary thought-but get to that ultra stale stage-yummmmm ) and caught myself wondering this morning where I can get more.

Alas, I am ashamed of Renegade. He spit out the peep I gave him, then asked for another. I did the Soup Nazi imitation that someone had previously mentioned and yelled "NO PEEPS FOR YOU!! " Rebel, just begged for more, and Renegade had teh good grace to look ashamed. Ben, being completely moronic, just ignored the whole peep issue.

For Easter, my mil gave me a stuffed pink Peep, because she loves me, and gave my girls sport socks that have Peep pom poms on the back-how cute!!

And, why should she not freebase Peeps-they are afterall, PEEPCRACK!!!

I think I will go outside and get my fix, reassring myself that they are fat free, and wonder where I can cut the carbs that I will inhale......

    WE do need PA.....

    Default Hmmm....

Chocolate does it for me... What were we talking about? Oh yeah, Peeps!! I'd love to see how the Peeps company replies to that letter! I think we should all lobby Just Born to make Ted its official spokesequine!

I just sent 2 boxes to Equinetech's poor peepless Luka...she has already prepared her DH for the arrival of a box addressed to Luka.

I thought that over 100 peeps should be sufficient to wean him off. But he's hooked now. And they do travel so well, so much easier than Neccos and GoodnPlenty, which get soft and smooshy in the humidity, and so much less messier than watermelon.

I will say the red ones at Target freaked me out. I strongly suspect they are evil, they need little duckie horns on them. On the other hand...what if they marketed red peeps for horses that were coated with paprika so that dark colored horses wouldn't fade in the sun?

Have you tried regular marshmallows with Ted, or is it the neon colored crunchy sugar coating that he really needs to have?

I wonder if you got one of those injector systems that you use on poultry to shove herbs and spices into the meat, if you could use it on the peeps? If you've got a horse that doesn't like to eat supplements or meds with his feed, just lace a peep with bute or glucosamine or whatever and bam - tasty treat and meds all in one.
