Tomorrow I will send you on a journey, a journey I cannot take with you. You will visit a beautiful farm and wll feel very tired. you will sleep deeply and when you wake, the pain in your legs and feet will be gone. You will ble able to run and play and jump. There will be green grass and big bags of pretzels.
I cannot go where you will be, not now, but I will still love you. I will think of you so often. Every time I do, you will know. You will have the same feeling then as you have had when I appear at the barn door. You have made me a better person while you were always the best of friends. Every time I think of how confident I felt when I looked between those ears, you will know that you are loved and trusted.
Your kind heart touched many people who never thought that a horse could be a real individual. My son will miss you, since to him you are "horse." I would do anything to just once gallop down to the single oxer looking through the black tips of those little attentive brown ears.
I will come find you when I cross that bridge. Your bright eyes will be easy to find.
Sleep well, beautiful friend...

That's exactly what I was doing as I read your tribute.
Linny, That was touching, lovely, fitting, and truly beautiful. I imagine most of us have been in your shoes and not wanting to lose our friends but knowing it's best for them, even though it hurts us.
Yes, I'm also waiting to go over the bridge to see a number of horses, dogs and cats. I certainly hope to see some that I didn't own but certainly have known over the years-some from the '60's no less. I know I'll recognize them as they won't have changed from the time I knew them.
Sometimes you have to burn a few bridges to keep the crazies from following you!
A touching tribute to your much-loved companion. Am so very sorry for this loss and hope you will be able to take comfort from the good life you gave your "beautiful friend." Until you are reunited....
