    Default Sidesaddle High jump GB record;

    Michaela Bowling set a new British side saddle high jump record by clearing 6ft 3in at the The National Show at Aintree on Saturday 27 July.
    Riding Laughing Larry, who is blind in one eye, they were just 3in off the world record.
    Michaela, a regular showjumper and former point-to-point jockey, has been riding side saddle for just a couple of months, while this was only the third time Laughing Larry has been ridden aside.
    Ireland’s Susan Oakes, who broke the record last year at 5ft 11in, finished second.

    That's the same ride that was already posted, but in one shot she had good air time.

    I mention to my trainer sometimes that I want to learn side saddle just to learn it. I think it would be cool...she looks at me like I have two heads...

    I am still going to do it one day!

    I made that same comment to my mother the other day. She looked at me like I had lost my mind. Of course it was quickly followed up with "WHY?!?!?" For me, it is solely because I want to try. I have zero intentions of jumping or showing, I just want to say I tried!

    If you want to learn for fun consider Camp Leaping Horn in July in NJ at the USET Foundation's Hamilton Farm.

    http://campleapinghorn.com/

    They always seem to have a lot of fun. Learning sessions, vendors, people willing to help you get started AND a gorgeous setting.

    I'd give Shelly a call and check on details for just coming to learn.

    Love sidesaddle. I was lucky enough to learn some basics with a former trainer on our saddleseat horses. She gave me a really old but still in useable conditon sidesaddle, I still use it occasionally and did get brave enough to jump my mare over two foot verticals. But I look at old hunt pictures and it amazes me seeing the women and horses back then!
