I wonder if that shot lifted him off his feet or if he got bucked off the horse and, erm, landed on the hoof? Either way I don't feel sorry for the guy due to the whip in his hand he probably deserved it.
They actually use those spurs to help them "stick" to the horse. Upon mounting they will cruely and forcefully jab those spurs into the sides of the horse to hold them on. I think anyone who participates in such rodeos get what they deserve when the horse scores like this one did.
