What a sweet gesture! Hope they find one.

Think COTH could get this farm to help?
    http://miniaturehorsefarmsdirectory....orse-farm.html

    Or the association http://www.amha.org/index.asp?KeyName=316

    Anyone know the farm owners?

This girl is for sale and is only 6 miles away http://www.equinenow.com/horse-ad-702886 I wonder if we should ask the horses owner for an couple of hours of her time to do a good deed and it might make a nice selling point too.

Aargh! Why isn't there a "this will make you cry" warning on this?

I take my two minis to the fair each year. Tuesday is "senior day" and all of the assisted living places bring groups of seniors. They come through the barns in their wheelchairs and walkers and we pull the minis out for them to pet. One year I sat on a bench with a guy for 20 minutes. He never said a word, just pet the horse.

Last year a woman in a wheelchair started crying after I let her pet Mocha. She grew up in L.A. and had always loved horses but had never been near one. Later that day a large group of seniors came by. I brought Mocha out and this woman in a wheelchair grabbed her by the halter and started kissing her on the nose and saying "I love horses" over and over. Then she started telling stories about the horses she had growing up. I held off crying until after she left.

Mocha was an obnoxious brat every time I pulled her out for a kid to pet. She never twitched an ear for any of the seniors. My minis aren't fancy and we never win anything at the fair but I will continue to bring them just for Senior Day.

Hmmm..I'll ask my BO (we are about 15 miles from Woodland) if she could take their aged hunter pony there. I'll forward the ad to her now. There are several barns in the area...I'll also post it on the NW Riders Classifieds FB page. Super sweet gesture!

I certainly hope someone can help her out. It touched my heartstrings as my mother loved to pet on my horses. When she would visit the farm, she and her walker could always be found parked outside of a horse stall. My horses had great conversations with her...

this is wonderfulI am tearing up both from this story and wondering what my oldest days will be like without the contact of a cat or a horse.

animal assisted therapy is becoming a current thing but it is still hard to find out about. Perhaps the OP ( craigs list) can contact some local nursing homes and see if any participate in an animal assisted therapy and if there is a reference to a provider.

I've got folks hopefully working on making this happen--there's a wonderful FB group that I have every confidence can find an appropriate pony/mini and make it happen. I've got the truck and trailer, just don't have the required make and model to give this lady the best day of her life. I'll keep you updated if it works out.

Thought I'd update anyone interested. Today, someone arrived at the lady's house with a lovely Halfinger? or pony and a Friesan to surprise her. A local TV station tagged along and shot some great video! Very heartwarming, she was in tears with excitement and memories. They showed pictures of her as a young girl with her black and white pinto pony. She grew up on a farm, apparently and had horses for years.

Gotta love the horse community! There were 50 responses to the ad offering horses and ponies.

Is there a link to the newscast or can you tell us the name of the station?

It was on KATU 2 in Portland...but I don't see a link on the website! Ginger Kathleen Coombs took her Welsh pony and Friesen. Not sure if they'll post it later, or what.
