    Default RF Amber Eyes/Commentary

I just read the article on COTH about Kelley Farmer's new eventer-turned-hunter RF Amber Eyes, now known as Commentary. I also had the pleasure of watching the horse go just now in the Devon Hunter Derby. All I can say is WOW! That horse can just come be mine any time now...

I believe they're leading the class as of right now.

Absolutely spectacular find, that horse! I only saw the last half of the handy round though, wish I'd seen all of it.

I've gotta be honest: if it jumps Kelly out of the tack, no way could the aged likes of *me* stay in it, so I'll just spectate and enjoy!!! What a horse!!!

Good lord that horse can JUMP!!

Does anyone know why they changed her name? She was pretty well known as RF Amber Eyes. I didn't realize at first the Commentary was the same horse. I can't be the only one

It was an ugly name for the hunter ring, and you don't necessarily want to remind people it was an eventer. So not knowing it's the same horse is a good thing.

I agree Commentary is a better name for the hunter ring, but IMO there is no difference whatsoever in having a hunter who is an ex-eventer or an ex-jumper or an ex-eq. horse. (Seriously....) The only question is do they deliver in the ring. Pretty obviously this one does!

"Kost to Coast" had his name changed to "Clearly" even after he had won all over the place in the HUNTER ring under the original name while owned by Betty Oare. And not only is that kind of a nice name, but I don't see any negative association with the horse being one of Betty's! I don't know why people change names sometimes?!

The point I'm making is that if someone would change a perfectly acceptable name of a winning hunter... of course they'd change the name of a horse crossing over from another discipline.

Wouldn't they want to change it since RF is the farm/owner tag?

Yup. Sienna used to be Katcha Reminiscin' (trained by Katja Kallenberger) before being sold to Lexi Maounis and renamed.

Amber Eyes is by far NOT the most ridiculous name in the hunter world right now.

Single word names seem to be trendy.

And if knowing it was a former event horse is a bad thing (I respectfully disagree!), they probably should have refused an interview by a COTH writer....

I'm very superstitious about changing names. I have friends who sail and that is one thing they NEVER do is change the name of the boat. no. no. no. lol.

Besides, I'd like it to be easy for people to track the horse. Some people change names to hide stuff, so I wouldn't do it.

I don't really have a problem with someone changing a horse's name (to each his own), but I really wish USEF would leave "aliases" on the online database of show records. At the very least it would be helpful for past owners who like to follow the careers of their old horses and would be interested in offering a retirement home somewhere down the line!

I wouldn't have changed the name. Especially after having an article published about her.

Snicklefritz, when you have to go into the ring riding a horse named "Boo's Lady" (say it out loud for the full effect ) you may change your mind lol! I called her Chloe, and her "show name" was Chloe Dancer

The name change predated the article

Capall, I've got you beat: I showed a mare whose registered name was "Bartera Phyr Phlyte". I. Am. Not. Kidding.
I had never changed a name, but I couldn't stand it, OR say it without spraying spittle about, what with all pf the "ph's".
I changed it to "Papillon"....which was butcher by announcers even when I made a pronunciation note on show forms ("Poppy -On")
    *sigh*

I see your point. Yeah. I might make an exception for that one.
