    Default It's snowing...! WTF?!

32 degrees here and snowing, snowing enough that my mare is wearing her WINTER blanket, and it's sticking to the ground, as in, accumulation...

It's almost June...VERMONT...make up your mind!

On the bright side, I saw on the news that Killington is open for free to anyone who would like to ski over Memorial Day weekend.

We had snow here in the middle of the week. A town south of us got 18"! On May 10 it was 99*. Now it's just raining. We've had a quarter of our annual rainfall in 2 days (average annual rainfall is 8"). Crazy weather!

Saw on the local news last night that they were plowing snow in Lake Placid. It looked like they got at least 6" or more. Sure glad it stayed to the east of Rottenchester.

I will admit to wearing long johns the last couple of mornings to feed the horses and clean stalls. Then bundled up to mow the bloody pastures.

Every spring I say to myself "Why do you bother to fertilize the pastures?"
I've only got 2 horses and have already mowed the front and back pastures 4 times!

We had snow here last week. Snow in May. In England... I can't remember seeing that before.

My theory is the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano in 2010 is mucking up the weather.

I've seen snow around here on Mother's day quite a few yrs ago. I think it was about 3-5" but most of it melted by late afternoon and was gone the next morning.

What part of VT? I'm in the NE corner and we're just cold! And I did have to blanket the old lady and bring in the other 2 nags in the barn. And don't get me started on the garden.....

Central, Barre area...we got a few inches here, and a few miles from here up on the mountain there was about 7" (friends were out in mud trucks last night whooping it up one last time!)

I had to put my winter 240 gram blanket on my mare last night because her sheet is leaking and this was the next option...as cold and windy as it was, the blanket wasn't even too heavy for her.

Kookicat-that's entirely possible. In the early-80's there was a huge volcano explosion in the Philippines, after Mt St Helens, and it never hit over 98 in Washington DC. And in the mid-90's the same routine happened with volcano ash, and it was expected to snow every month of that year in Colorado-I know it snowed in the higher mountains over 4th of July weekend.

My then boyfriend, now husband and I moved to Buffalo the day after graduating from Iowa State in 1988. The next year we had 6 inches of snow actually on Memorial Day! I was not amused.

We are warmer south of Boston at 645 p.m. Than we were all day. The sun is finally out. Very strange. Froze my butt off at a horse show this morning. No snow though thank god!
