I have been milk testing now for a week or so using the 6 way pool test strips that have PH and Calcium on them.
I was having high seven readings with about 250 calcium until Tuesday Monday/Tuesday ish when is spiked to very low calcium and very high PH. This is demonstrated on the Wednesday strip the photos I have included.
On Thursday the PH dropped significantly to the 6 range but the calcium was still not too high but higher than before. I decided to check on her that night just in case...no baby
Friday it was a definite 6.2 PH with a higher calcium but not high. Stayed up.....no baby.
This mornings reading is about the same as yesterday. Mare seems totally calm and normal but I expect to watch her tonight.
Is it that the calcium still needs to come up? The milk still isn't milky looking either. It's a translucent whitish colour. A tiny bit sticky, flakes of when dry on my hand. No sticky like before when the PH was higher. Back then it was more like honey.
I am not sure exactly what your question is. It seems to me you are reading it correctly.
I guess my big question is when will she foal? Based on those readings I would have though last night or the night before but she has been totally chill and is today as well.
Should I expect the ph to stay low but the calcium to rise even more before we're in the 24 to 48hr range or should I expect this baby tonight?
I'm sure I'm just over thinking this since it's my first time but any insight into this would be great.
My experienced mare's calcium never got above about 100 this year. pH was the indicator. This is the first year I've done calcium and pH. Last year I did the Predict A Foal strips and pH strips. My maiden this year didn't get the normal looking milk until a couple hours before she foaled, however her pH dropped down to 6 about 24hrs before.
