Does Texas prohibit the slaughter of a horse for private consumption? Not being sold to the public?
TX prohibits the "sale" of horsemeat for human consumption...you can give it away or eat it yourself.

Go look at pictures of Moose, they look nothing like horses.

    Default Oh for Pete's sake!

Someone posted a petition against this blogger on one of the FB horse groups, so I went hunting around the internet for the actual blog.

First of all, I live in Texas. Secondly, I've worked for the National Wildlife Refuge system.

K- so this douchebag blogger is a troll. I know of no wildlife refuges in Texas that have feral horses. Secondly, there is no hunting of horses on national wildlife refuges. Even as considered exotics. You can find that information yourself if you bother to use google. Thirdly: "Our horses are some of the finest equine specimens imported from all over the world or from local breeders. Many are organic and grass-fed." You can't import horses into a National Wildlife refuge.

Come on, people. Research, read, and think this stuff through before you panic and sign some petition that doesn't actually do anything. It wouldn't surprise me if the petition was started by the same person that created the blog site.

My mind refused to see the homeliness of that horse (Or Mule) and construed it into a moose. I have never seen a moose in person, so I thought "Oh female moose" I still can't see a horse, but I will accept it is indeed a horse..

I wonder if they are tooting about trophy horses why they choose a photo of the fugliest horse as their poster child.

The National Wildlife Refuge comment in the OP's quote was the first clue for me that this couldn't be real. I didn't bother reading anymore after that.

You are mostly right, but they are shooting donkeys. The National Park service, park rangers at Big Bend national forest have shot/killed over 130 donkeys that roam wild there.

Rule of thumb for the interwebz: If it's too crazy to be true, it probably is false. At the very least, further checking required.

I think they are Alaskans poking fun at canned hunts in Texas. May as well be shooting horses?

Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean its true. Always a good idea to check Snopes when you see something this shocking.

    (ps - it's not true)

I laughed just thinking about anyone hunting my horses. Not much of a thrill. Shake the grain scoop. Boom. Not much fun.

I have confirmed with Texas animal control officers all over the state that this is a hoax -- someone has a sick sense of humor

    You...needed to do that?

I like their sense of humor, personally The petition, whether also originated by the blogger or by the painfully gullible, adds to the fun.
