    Default Lord Helpus and Valor

Just in case you haven't seen it, here's a wonderful article about our own Lord Helpus and her horse of a lifetime:

    http://www.chronofhorse.com/article/...w-horses-valor

My apologies if someone has already started a thread about this; I looked and didn't see one.
I heard a neigh. Oh, such a brisk and melodious neigh as that was! My very heart leaped with delight at the sound. --Nathaniel Hawthorne

There is another piece to the story. I worked for Suzie LeRoy's mother at the time Suzie had Valor and took care of him for many of Suzie's early wins on him. I was a close friend of Hans' and knew about the hiding of Valor during the auction. Then, by happy coincidence, I was at Sandron when Pam and Valor came to ride with Joe and Conrad. I got to take care if this wonderful horse yet again. He really was exceptional.

LH - when I first read this article I noticed a mistake. They said in 1969 Valor moved to California but considering he was "king of hunters in the 70s" I said, hmm that's not right! Glad Molly changed it!
What a truly awesome story and what a great horse.

You should see that gals ribbon quilt.

Now, can we have one about her other TB? The Jumper, Touch of Class?

LH and Valor are also featured in BBer Merry's beautiful book "A Passion for Horses," which is a book every horse lover should have in her or her collection.

Got it, autographed of course. How is Merry these days? Haven't heard from her since shortly after she got hurt.

    What happened to Merry??

I always enjoyed her posts, and her tales of horse adventures with her sister (Beezer?) and her mother (?).

IIRC, she had a relatively young horse that wrecked bad at a show and put her in the hospital for some time. She was back after she was off the real good stuff and lucid for awhile, maybe on and off for about a year then sort of vanished. That was awhile back.

Miss her posts...actually knew her back when and worked at Disneyland at the same time and in the same area. Hope she is OK.

Except for the bankruptcy crime of hiding an asset (assuming LeRoy really was in bankruptcy), this is an amazing and inspiring story. Absolutely lovely horse!

Read that article a few days ago, did not realize it was our own LH!

Oh I remember the days of Merry... and Beezer.... I used to enjoy following their adventures.

I tried to post about this fabulous article the other day, but COTH was having technical difficulties, so I gave up. I knew most of the story about Valor and Pam, but was absolutely tickled pink to see this!

And I was just thinking about Merry and Beezer the other day, because I, too, have an OTTB who is a graduate of Goofball U!

Love this story! And the one about The Godfather as well - brought tears to my eyes!
