    Default Newbie Color Question

My mare had a beautiful chestnut foal with some very nice chrome. I have a question though.

She has 3 jagged socks and a cute little star. One of her front legs doesn't have a sock but she is a blonde color on that leg and it goes all the way up the inside of her leg, on the outside it goes to a more red chestnut. However, the blonde extends up on the inside on all of her legs and her thighs are almost white along with her belly, Her flanks are white where her hip meets her barrel. I also noticed today her throat latch/rounds of her jowels also have some white fros.

She also has a skunk tail.

Is this just a foal coat and she will shed out of the blonde/white areas or is this frosting on a pretty little cake?

From what I can tell the white on her flank has pink under it

(The pink on her is the stuff I used for the umbilical stump, she got a little jumpy and it got everywhere, I left her to settle down and cleaned it after her nap, please forgive the VERY unflattering photo, I was trying to document the white. She was only a few hours old)

I had one born that color. She's a month old now and is shedding out a much darker (come on liver....) color. Foal coats are very deceptive in terms of final color.

That is kind of funny, as I called her a Mini Myst when she was born and Myst is shedding out to be a liver chestnut.

I am hoping the white will stay. Her Daddy was a Rabicono and Grand Daddy is a Sabino I'd love to register her pinto too.

Very very very normal chestnut coloring on that non-white leg

It's also very very very normal chestnut coloring to be so light as to be nearly white up in the "pits" area - flank, elbow, under the jaw, etc. Very much the normal.

She will shed quite a bit darker than she is now, so don't think she's going to turn liver Her new coat will lose a lot of that light coloring, and her Spring coat next year will be more similar to her adult color (though could still change) and won't have nearly as much of that light look.

Here's my filly at birth - very pink-ish

And now, a month later shedding out much darker.

Can't wait to see what color she finishes.

Very very typical of chestnut foals Some are born VERY pink looking, moreso than yours. And most of the time they shed the first time very very dark. But then most of them end up some sort of "normal" shade
