    Default Sallee Horse Transport?

I'm looking to ship a horse from VA to GA, and I saw their ad at the top of the forum. Does anyone have experience with them? Would you recommend them? I'm open to any other suggestions as well, I'm having a hard time finding anyone who can come in the next few weeks.

They transport all the race horses around here.

Years ago they did a hurricane evacuation for us from Savannah to Atlanta. They were awesome then!

shipped my mare from Va. to Fla. last fall and just had her shipped home again with Johnson horse transport. Price was extremely reasonable and I was pleased with them.

Shipped a horse from LA to FL and was very pleased with them. The two horses going from my barn had the whole huge truck to themselves, and it was still cheaper than the local guys.

The drivers are horsemen. I know most of them. One of thetm is my husband. They have goosenecks, 3 horse vans, 6 horse vans, and tractor trailers. They always stop after a few hours to check on the horses and top off their water. You can also request an attendant to stay in the back with your horse too.

They have been around for a long time and I have known big barns who used them all the time and with success.

They've been around almost the entire 50 years I've been in horses. I've never used them but clearly they are doing it right!

I've used them with no problem. They don't vary from their routes. In my case they came to my area weekly, but I had to bring my horses to them, which was a 45 minute drive.

Sallee does stick to established routes so it might be good to have some others in mind.

Johnson Bros has already come up and Brookledge is wonderful.

Please be aware some of these companies use subcontractors and service can vary wildly. The 3 named above use company drivers, no subs.

ASK if you will get a company driver and company owned and maintained rig/trailer or a non company employed subcontractor with their own vehicle. Subs can be good or sketchy. Be sure before you book.

I've used Brookledge locally. The only interaction I've had with Sallee was a driver waiting in line at the pharmacy who was bragging to the clerk that he just beats the crap out of racehorses on his truck if they misbehave and wipes the blood off before delivering them. I hope he was exaggerating. It wouldn't stop me from using them, but I would ask some extra questions.

I highly doubt that driver did that. You can't hide something like that. Sallee would of got in trouble, probably sued, lose that client and many more too

That's pretty much what I thought too...that he was trying to act the tough guy. But still...it pushed me towards Brookledge instead. I suppose I should have called Sallee when I heard him...and let them know what was being said. I blew that one.

For fans of Orb - he boarded a Sallee Van, leaving Churchill returning to his Belmont base. Go Orb!

Several years ago they shipped a rescue for me for free from Finger Lakes to South Carolina. I think they are great.

I used Meadowbrook Transport from NY to FL, they did a great job and were on time on both ends.
