Women need to quit being so critical of other women. You don't have to look horrible to be a horse person.
Hahaha, this isn't about the woman! It's about the pose. Have you ever tried Carolines in your coffee?
You ....do know that if there were not the woman, there wouldn't be the pose either, right?

I mean, someone is doing the posing....
...who is a woman.

.......y/y?

Well I was certainly disappointed after eagerly rushing to my mailbox to get the racy Dover catalogue with much talked about new centerfold section. Instead I got a regular Dover catalogue with perfectly respectable cover. I think some people in this thread should get off that mailing list and sign up for these folk's catalogue. http://gothicgarments.com/menu3/index.html It might be more your speed.

Shocker!!! In addition to bridles & saddles, Dover sells women's riding clothes. There is a woman on the cover wearing (gasp?) riding clothes. I'm assuming that they consider them fashionable riding clothes, so she's striking a (presumably) fashionable pose. I'm going to mangle a quote..but years ago there was a public figure who was asked to define pornography, he said he couldn't define it, but said that he knew it when he saw it. I guess this one is truly in the eye of the beholder because to me .... it's just a cute girl in a pair of breeches.

Look on the bright side.... Dover isn't carrying Katie Price Equestrian, yet, so we can all breathe a little easier. We haven't gone full blown barn vamp yet (vamp is NOT the word I really want to use, but I digress).

Now, I'm off to go strike a pose in front whatever bush that's flowering in my front yard as I head off to the barn.

Yeah, and not only that, women who don't ride at all sometimes buy riding clothes, from the Dover catalog and elsewhere. I bring my catalogs in for the fashionable woman who sits next to me at work, she's never been within 100 yards of a horse, but she likes the clothes.

Those Goode Rider jeans breeches, in particular, are popular with a number of celebrities who don't ride....Goode Rider has them on their web site. They have more than one market.

I showed my husband the 'offending' photo and he just kinda raised a brow at me and went back to working on his laptop..I guess that means I should cancel my order for that exact outfit for our weekly canoeing trip.

OP, I totally get your post. In fact, my SO asked me (in a smart-assed way) if Dover wasn't objectifying women w/ that cover b/c it looked so ridiculous. He said that b/c I comment on how much I hate some of the stupid catalogs he receives that blatantly objectifying women to market products to men.

I don't care for the cover, myself. I think mostly women are looking at the catalog, anyway, and that "come hither" face is lost on the audience. I more wonder who in marketing decided that was the shot to use? Probably some guy who doesn't even like horses... But, whatever, the breeches are cute. I guess that's the point...

Can you make the canoe a little more phallic? And then I'll buy one.

God forbid the Coth censors complain about a canoe shirt as well as a "come hither" look! Obviously a lot of people need to get out in public and observe the dress, or undress, of the people.

But, but, that's what I don't really get. Even though I don't see anything wrong with that particular picture except for the fact that it does not especially makes me want to browse the catalogue, Dover's target market is not MEN! I would think the vast majority of their products are sold to women! And that most of these women would rather have a sexy TB or a hunky WB or a cute pony on the cover!

1. Someone went to a lot of trouble to create and produce that pocket design and by gosh it's important to the marketing dept that it actually gets seen, hence the in-your-face pose. "Hike that cheek up and stick it out there..." not objectionable to me at all (and I'm a straight woman who doesn't have a butt like that and probably never did).
2. Let this young model (and her cute little doppel-gangers at the shows) enjoy their moment in the sun. It may take years but time, bulk and gravity will catch up with them eventually. Then it will be their turn to kvetch.
3. Personally I will go to my grave thinking that the cruelest fashion sin in all equestrian-ship is making any women over the age of 50 (maybe 40) wear WHITE breeches for dressage. Everybody know that it's supposed to be dark clothes below the waist! Plus the, um, "dimples" wouldn't show through...
It's just grass and water till it hits the ground.
