    Default bran in beet pulp

Years ago I remember reading on a vet forum that it was necessary to feed a small amount of bran with beet pulp to balance the phosporus/calcium ratio.
So since then I have faithfully added a bit of bran as per formula given.
Periodically I review what the horses are eating and make adjustments.
When I do a search on the internet I can find lots of info on each but nothing suggesting the need to supplement BP with bran.
So I am wondering if I am feeding bran when I don't need to.
Has anyone else heard of this?

It seems like if one knew the ratios in BP and what a horse should have it would be apparent.

    thx

I was told to feed alfalfa pellets with beet pulp for the same reason. I do remember finding info on it but that was about 10 years ago.

Beep and alf are both high in calcium, so feeding the 2 do not balance each other out.

Unless you are feeding a ton of alfalfa, there's no reason to need to add unfortified rice bran to a beet pulp regime, and if you are, adding phosphorous should be done because of the alf not necessarily the beep.

If you're feeding all/mostly grass hay/grass, then the higher ca in the beet pulp is helping the lower calcium in the grass.

I did search for similar info but didn't find anything but now I see similar threads and one just a couple months ago. Sorry for the repeat thread.
yeah mostly grass hay. I use wheat bran. Funny I just remember it was really stressed if beet pulp was fed regularly bran was needed.
    Maybe it was just misinformation.
