At this point, I don't care of he wins by 50 lengths and sets a track and world record or wins by a head in a "dull" performance.

I just want him to win and come out sound and stay that way for 3 weeks. Think sometimes the media types forget the object is to get in front of the rest of the field at the wire. Not satisfy some need for a blockbuster performance just because we want a "movie moment".

He can save that for the Belmont, right now, he just needs to beat what's in there. Then we can worry about "movie moments".

If he really is what everybody is hoping, the rail shouldn't bother him with only 9 in there (if they all go to the post). He will need a little luck, as they all do, but maybe he can make his own luck. I'm hoping...but almost afraid to watch after so many disappointments.
When opportunity knocks it's wearing overalls and looks like work.

I'm trying to remember in the last 10-15 years a horse that came out of the Derby with as much Triple Crown buzz as Orb. Fusaichi Pegasus maybe. Barbaro probably. Big Brown might be another. Anyone else remember one?

Yep - today is the 'Peoples Pink Party' - so that includes the Lady Legends for the Cure Race IV 'presented by Wells Fargo' and Battle of the Sexes Jockey Challenge on top of the marque race, the Black Eyed Susan Stakes.

Would somebody please summarize this simulation? My internet isn't going to cooperate with the video. Have tried for 4 minutes but can only get a 29-second ad (took me 2 minutes for that), then eternal loading. Hughes does this sometimes with videos. If I did get to it, judging from the experience so far, I would probably view at the watch 3 seconds, pause for 45 seconds pace.

dressagetraks - not to ruin it, but Orb wins barely over Afleet Alex.

A tweet from May 17th @ 1:16pm EST (although when I did advanced wagering the Terminal didn't have these odds):

    Odds updte Orb 3-5, Mylute 7-1, Goldencents 7-1, luckyday 10-1; Departing 12-1; Charlie 12-1; Will Take Charge 13-1, Oxbow 16-1, Titl 5 24-1

So is anyone making as Pimlico inspired drink for tomorrow?

All the names pretty much would be fine for a "drink"- the Oxbow, perhaps?

I just hope to be able to say domo arigato, Orb this time tomorrow.

That video is so cool. All I could think was, "So this is what it feels like to be Alec Ramsay!" I always wanted to know what it would be like to be Alec Ramsay riding in a race.

The simulation race was cool, but I had a hard time believing a race with speedsters War Emblem, Rachel Alexandra, and Shackleford battling it out for the lead would run 1/4 in :24 2/5, the 1/2 in :48 1/5, and 3/4 in 1:11 2/5. I surprised they didn't simultaneously simulate spontaneous combustion while busting out the likes of a 21 second first quarter.

My daughter and her best friend drove to Baltimore yesterday to attend the Preakness. They have a box in the middle of the stretch (lucky!!!!!) and lovely outfits! Should I mention the hats???

At any rate, I've heard from her this morning and they've been at the track since 7:20. The excitement of seeing a Triple Crown race in itself is super exciting......but the thought of seeing a potential Triple Crowner winner in person is almost more than she can stand!!!

    GOOD LUCK ORB!!!

Tweeted image - Orb having 7 am breakfast on Preakness morning

Temps in upper 60's now with "light sprinkle of rain" falling at Pimlico with an increasing chance of showers forecast into the afternoon.

That is fun!! I've never been on a horse that was running 37 mph, crap, stuff happens fast at that speed.

Orb has already hit the track ... 'for light exercise' on morning of Triple Crown's second leg

Orb jogged about a half-mile and galloped about five-eighths of a mile, according to his trainer, Shug McGaughey. Orb made his way to the track around 5:30 a.m., accompanied by a pony.

“I always train most of my horses on the day that they’re in, to let them just settle in for the day,” McGaughey said. “It’s going to be 12 hours before he runs. This will let him settle in, and make sure he’s okay.”

I've had a different impression-- that racing fans are so hungry for another TC winner that almost every Kentucky Derby winner in the last 15 years has gone into the Preakness surrounded by TC buzz, which seems, understandably, to get louder almost every year. The ones I most remember in addition to those you mention are Smarty Jones and War Emblem. The buzz is certainly understandable-- this is the longest we've been without a TC winner, and so many have come so close! 15 years ago, Real Quiet only missed by a nose, and yet I don't remember as much buzz about him going into the Preakness as there was for Barbaro or Smarty Jones.

Of course, at my age, the problem could be with my memory....

Sure would like to see Orb win it. I love Malibu Moon's story already, and that would really cap it!

    He is mighty handsome!

Edit for question, in one article posted earlier regarding the sponsor it mentioned the preakness being 138. Is it 138 or 139?

And in retrospect, it's probably better Real Quiet lost the photo, as apparently he'd have been taken down for interference if he'd won....

I agree, there has been TONS of dubious TC speculation in the last ten years at least, no matter who or what wins the Derby. Where I hear a little more this time is on TVG, from handicappers who do this for a living and get excited about things like a $7500 non-winners of three, who aren't always instantly on the "THIS COULD BE IT!" bandwagon. Right now most are just saying "Who's your second choice/who are putting under Orb in the exacta?" (With some 'maybe' on the Belmont, but definitely focused on win the Preakness first.)
