    Default RIP Sweet donkey Indy

    http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/...dyinwindow.jpg

Such a sweet, sweet donkey! After a fabulous day of grazing in the sun with her buddy yesterday, and apples and her favorites treats and yummy hay applesauce mash, active and chatty in her stall last night, she was scheduled for her final vet appt this am. But, she beat us to it and apparently picked her own moment. She was just about gone when I found her very early this am in her stall. The vet thinks no sign of any thrashing or kicking, appeared very peaceful.

She went with treats, water and tobacco for her crossing. Her best friend spent some time checking out the body.

She was a wonderful, wonderful girl. Nothing but love and she was absolutely adored right back. Total strangers driving by would stop to say hi to her. She was so cute and so sweet, and made it through donkey lice, and later skin problems, and a punctured knee joint capsule, and a corneal tear, and a small abscess and colic..just loved being with her friend, and with my mom who nursed her through everything.

It is a lovely, lovely day and I'm glad she had a few gorgeous weeks of sunshine and grass and treats.

Hugs to you and Indy . . . she made it easier for you, and she got her special day of pampering.

Jingles for you and Indy. She looks just like my own little man.

I do have to tell you though that I saw the forward arrow on the right side of Indy's photo so thought it might lead to more pictures of her... Good gawd, I'm not sure what was going on with the police but that brought me right back from wistful sadness to the willing craziness that horse people put themselves through...

here's a few more, have a ton more still on my phone which I have not managed to upload. Thanks for the lovely comments. She was just...wonderful.

And tobacco because my husband is Native (Blackfeet) so the tobacco would be the eqivalent of coins for the boatman, something for her grandfathers (and mothers) to smoke as they welcome her! (she herself is not much of a smoker!!!)

What a lovely donkey! You gave her a good life and a nice tribute. I like the tobacco story. They used to deworm with tobacco in the old days. Horses aparently like chewing it.

I am so sorry, but what a blessing that her passing seemed to be a peaceful one.

Aw..hugs to you. My little pony loved tobacco, and my neighbor always gave her a pinch of his Copenhagen. So glad she chose her own terms to go under, but the pain is the same.
