Default Can we play guess the color?

I keep going back and forth on what the heck color my new colt is! He does not look like the other black foals I've had.

Here are some photos, less than 24hrs old:

Sire is Palomino (by a Palomino out of a Chestnut), dam is bay (by a Black out of a Grey). I thought he was dark bay when he was born, then I thought black, today I noticed he has a golden tint to his coat in the sun? The skin under his tail and between his legs is purple looking (not like a normal bay foal, for example). He is 3/4 Welsh

Black? Smoky black? Buckskin (which I doubt)?

He is probably a smokey black and carries one copy of the creme gene.

Probably smokey black. But we have had blacks born that light that were nothing but black.

He's either smoky black, or smoky brown, and I'm leaning towards smoky black.

At first glance on the first picture I immediately thought "oh, he's black, just a lighter gray foal coat than is typical, but not abnormal".

But then getting a better look at his head, there is so much "off" color there. I know a smoky black who has very purple undertones to her color and that is what his head color looks like there. Sort of brown-y/purple-y if that makes sense.
