    Default What does an "M" mean in a win column?

    Saw an ad for this horse and noticed on his pedigree there is an "M" in the win column. What does that mean? This horse steeplechased.

    His pedigree looks nice but he is older than it says in the ad.

    It means they are a maiden. As in they haven't won a race.

    Basically the same as a 0 in the win column as Harvest said.

    And remember Pedigree Query is a USER maintained database and anyone can put anything they want in there. It can be a good resource, but is often not accurate--out of date info or just plain wrong.

    Equibase should be your go-to source for flat racing results and they have some over fences stuff.

    Equineline to confirm pedigrees.

    And I think you can find SOME chasing results at National Steeplechasing.

    As others have said your horse is a maiden. As others have said Ped Query is user uploaded. 99.9% of the time in the win/place/show it will give numbers. Instead of M it will show 0. This person put M for maiden. Yes, this horse last ran over jumps or at least tried. Unplaced in sanctioned Jump meets and Point to Points. I think last race over jumps was at Saratoga a maiden hurdle. He did win a “training flat race”. But this doesn’t count toward his official record. All the money he earned was on the flat. For his complete race record over jumps and or training flat races, sanctioned or at Point to Points can be found here;

    Click on “Reports” then in the drop down box click “horse” type in his name. When it comes up click “show report”.
