    Default Gelding won't drop

My youngest gelding is a recent acquisition - now that he is home from field QT, I am getting a much better idea of his little quirks. In turnout he will drop and "play" , but when he urinates he doesn't drop at all. Is it as simple as him needing a good undercarriage wash? Also checked for a bean but didn't see one.
    Thanks!

most of my geldings kept it tucked inside much of the time. Even urinating they only came out a little. I do not think it is unusual at all.

I agree with Nezzy. My gelding looks to not drop at all when he urinates. He was recently cleaned and inspected by the vet and there is nothing wrong down there.

OK, that is a relief! I mean he is spraying out of his sheath, not just poking out a little.

You say you did not see a bean, did you stick your finger in the channel and run it around to feel for smegma build up?

On a new horse, I would do a tranquilizer and clean the dropped penis and sheath thoroughly, then if he continued to pee inside his sheath I would at least talk to my vet.

Yeah I don't know how you would "see" if there was a bean unless you were able to stick your head up there and have it out with both hands opening the end of his penis to look. You have to get your finger in there and feel around. I'm lucky my gelding is really good for it. Just dug a couple of small ones out on Sunday.

It's very possible if he's spraying he might have a good bit of build up in there.

I mean that he was dropped out yesterday while I was grooming him, so I took matters into my own hands and checked for a bean - nada. Will have another poke around when I have the appropriate materials at hand.

Of the two boys I've had recently, one liked to wave his around at any opportunity. The other is less fond of displaying himself and pees with everything tucked in.

ROFL Deltawave....we must have twins! My other gelding has earned the nickname Porn Star - ANYTHING we do with him...ride, in-hand work - provokes a noteworthy reaction! You can't tell when you`re riding him unless it is a sunny day and you can see a shadow. Weather forecast is sunny and 75 - I think the gloves are going on!
