Default Is this for real??? (photo)

    https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-w...-h416/Whoa.jpg

I'm not sure if this has made the rounds lately, but if not, does anyone know if a.) the photos is for real, and b.) did it end well??? It actually makes me nauseous to look at it... (Image warning: no gore, just a major OMG factor.)

I don't know but it could be. I just saw an old photo of some sort of military horses going up and OVER a house, on the roof and jumping down on the other side. It had to be a good, what 6-8 foot drop off of the roof??

If this photo is real, I imagine the landing was a doozy.

At first glance I would say no, but then if you look a little longer... Maybe the horse misjudged the distance, and thinking it was a jump, jumped it? If it is real, I shudder to think of what the landing was like

I was looking at the faces in the audience, one or two had their hands over their mouth and looked really tense... so maybe? That just seems really nuts if it is real.

I'm not the most proficient Googler around these parts, not by any means... but I've done a bit of searching and haven't been able to turn ANYTHING up about this. But yeah, some people in the audience look aghast, the photographer seems to be pointing up at the horse/rider... I just can't see how the laws of physics would allow a safe landing.

Wait. We can figure this out (maybe)...

The Rolex logo seems to be on the green flag at the top left. Also, the web address seen on the fence (DKB.de) takes you to a sight that looks like its written in German (someone correct me if I'm wrong...) So, what events in Germany are run by Rolex? Maybe we can figure out records...

It could be real. Spruce Meadows in Calgary has a a steep bank the horses are SUPPOSED to carefully come down before a jump a few strides from the bottom:

    Bank to the left:

If the horse tried to jump from the top the orginal photo could result.

Looks like a demonstration of how NOT to come down a bank.

ETA: Appears to be a 2008 photo from the Hamburg Derby. Here's a link of a retrospective of that event, also showing the aftermath. Spoiler: it's about what you'd expect to happen for the rider, but it seems the horse stays up.

It looks like it might be an Irish Bank(?) in show jumping. It's similarly steep on the other side, and the horse is supposed to get to the top and then pitter-patter down part-way on the other side before jumping off. It looks like this horse just boldly launched himself off the top, hence the rider getting a tad left, and the scary looking picture.

That's probably going to be one hard landing.

OK, a little more Googling (thanks DOD!) says that it may be the Hamburger Springderby, 2008? I can find the photo (and ONLY this photo) but no info.

I guess it's safe to say that horse will be super careful, if not totally terrified, when faced with a hill in the future...

Yes, this horse was supposed to Man-from-Snowy-River it and slide down the bank on his hocks, then spring off near the bottom and continue on to the next jump (showjumping, not eventing). To demonstrate horse is brave, but also catty and obedient. Or, as here, needs work understanding the question.

Remember, just because you see something on the interwebz, doesn't mean it's a "good" example of what's "supposed" to happen. The rider was surely just as horrified as we were.

Thanks for the detective work, I had seen that and wondered how it ended too.

From his position in the saddle it is pretty clear he was surprized!
There is a brave horse - we never saw that at Spruce Meadows that I know of!

Well done you guys - brilliant searching.
