Default How old is my horse in the show world?

Hi guys, I am a longtime lurker and find a lot of interesting info on these forums! Sorry if this question has already been asked!

I have a June 2009 mare, so literally she is 3 coming 4. I am interested in knowing what her age will be for WEF 2014.

In the jumper world, I believe she will be 5, as the rule book for the YJC state "Open to horses with papers indicating a foaling date five years previous to the current calendar year. ". Am I understanding this correctly? Or will she be 4?

What about the 3-4yo Hunter class they have at WEF? I can not find any specific rules for the age specifications there.

    Thanks guys!!

According to the rule you included, her age would be 4. There is no way she would be considered 5 during 2013, so I would say you're good to go for the 3-4 year old classes until 2014 when she will be 5.

Nevermind, you asked for 2014. In 2014 she would be considered 5.

Yes. If she is going to be 5 IN 2014, then she is going to be 5 FOR 2014.

Actually at WEF the 3 and 4 year old Pre-Green Hunter's go by actual age, not USEF age. You could show your horse until her birthday in 2014 when she turns 5. For example I had a horse that did the 3 and 4 year olds this year. He aged out when he turned 5 at the end of March, even though his USEF age all year is 5. Good luck!

So a June 2009 baby is 4 y/o for the 2013 show year and 5 y/o for the 2014 show year. However, as someone mentioned, some of the WEF classes go by actual age, not show age.
