Ditto ahf and dilligaff. If you saw this transpire, I believe that you are morally obligated to tell the owner. Too much is at stake to ignore it. Also, if the barn owner would truly try to cover this up, they have no business running a boarding barn, especially one with a resident stallion.
If I was the SO I would have called the mare owner and paid for the vet visit. My stallion's sperm is valuable to me and if said mare is unacceptable in quality to him I really really don't want said result foal. However if MO wants the resulting foal she can pony up the stud fee and all the impending costs of that foal. To me those two options are it. If I was the MO I'd also call the vet or pay the stud fee.
