    Default canadian cothers- ottbs?

Aside from coth- which has mostly US advertisers, what are the best websites for horses /for sale in Canada?

Helping friend look for not too expensive jumper prospect. Is there a go to place for OTTBs in Canada?.

    We've got:

    LongRun - http://longrunretirement.com/

    Second Start - http://secondstartthoroughbreds.org/

    Adena Springs Retirement - http://adenaretirement.com/

Not sure if Phase 2 is still operating but here's the site - http://www.phase2thoroughbreds.net/index.html

Caution - I haven't used any of these. My first OTTB was bought from my old coach who found her in Michigan, and my second was brought home right off the track by my friend who works there.

If she doesn't need something with any retraining she could go straight to the track, or I could pass along her wish list to my friend. She rehomes quite a lot of OTTBs and OTSTBs every year. We're in southern Ontario.
I've spent most of my life riding horses. The rest I've just wasted.

My DIL lives in Montreal and she bought a nice mare through Second Start. The mare was in Fort Erie and my DIL lives in Montreal. Shipping was only $500! She got the mare on one of the transports that goes to the Maritimes.

The mare was doing well, jumping, etc. Then my DIL got pregnant and the mare did hurt a suspensory in January. They are now both starting all over again. She did not see the mare before purchase and she was quite skinny when she arrived!

    Good luck.
You can also try Long Run (a former barnmate la lovely OTTB from them)

or Adena Springs (Frank Stronach). http://adenaretirement.com/
They do have a farm in Canada and they place OTTBs from there as well.

sf, we were posting at the same time... great minds think alike.

You can also try www.transitionsthoroughbreds.org. Mindy rescues TBs from the feedlots, and a few of them are OTTBs. She is in the Ottawa area.

I know a couple people who have adopted from Adena Springs and they are very happy with their horses. One is an eventer and the other is doing hunters. They do a good job restarting the horses once they come off the track.

I'll put in a third plug for Longrun. I'm a little biased, though - I've ridden several cool ponies from the program, and I have one friend that works in the office and another who fosters for them! Check out their Facebook page here - https://www.facebook.com/LongRunTB?ref=ts&fref=ts

Final Furlong is located in the middle of Canada along the TransCanada highway, so lots of easy shipping options.

We'll be making our first visit to the track this coming weekend and will be listing some new horses tonight.

Please check us out at www.FinalFurlong.ca
