We are planning a move south to VA or NC. We don't know the area very well, and we don't know anyone there.
Where would one look to rent a farm? I have been searching craigslist. Area would need to be near a hospital since that is where I work now and would hope to get a job at another one. I have 15 horses, probably will sell a few before I leave but plan on at least 10 horses going with me. I see some pastures for rent, and some stalls at farms, but I would like a place with a house and farm all in one.
You might try looking in some horsey magazines and contacting realtors offering equestrian properties for sale -- if they are connected to the local horsey world, they might also know of places for rent.
Similarly, you might contact MFH's of hunt clubs (can be found through mfha.org) who often keep tabs on farms in their hunts' countries that are available for lease or sale. Even if you are not foxhunting-oriented.
Sometimes the most local/word of mouth approach is best.
If Maryland is an option, we will have a 40 acre farm in Bowie, MD available in September. Has 18 stalls, riding arena, plenty of fenced pastures, washstall, office/lounge area, access to trails and much more. There are also 2 houses on property available for rent. There is currently a group of boarders that would like to stay if we find a new leaser if that's an option.
A few hospitals within 15-20 min drive.
PM me if interested.
