Exactly. She is going to need a buddy for her lone horse and someone to eat all that grass.!

I hope whoever gets this sweet horse will let us know. I agree, the horse is a saint.

I'm not getting "saint" either. In this setting all seems well, but I think that horse has more spark. He doesn't have the nicest conformation and is not tall. I point this out not to be mean, it's just that we know a bigger horse has a better resale advantage and soundness could be an issue.

I do think the owner was quiet and acted kindly. I wonder if he trims the horse himself.

I'm the sucker that got the horse. So, takes a deep breath, I don't think his owner had any ill intentions. Don't get me wrong. The horse was on a 1 maybe 2 acre lot alone, which was fine if it would have been picked out every now and then but there was manure everywhere, no hay at all on the property. The guy was feeding him chicken scratch twice a day, that being said he doesn't look terribly under weight. The saddle in the video did not fit him at all. The pummel was sitting directly on his withers. He is VERY sore from it. If you prod his withers he will let you know how unhappy that makes him. He also did not like the girth. When I tried to adjust it for him he pinned his ears. He does not tie, he cribs and the guy in the video has been doing his hooves since he owned them but they have not been done in a year. He needs his teeth floated, he is pushy on the ground and believe it or not he is TALL!

I'm not sure how to post pictures on here just yet but once I figure it out I will post some.

I don't know what I intend to do with him. I just know that a bunch of people talked me into taking him. He is getting his hooves done tomorrow and then I will have the vet out and a chiro out to go over the plan for re-adjusting his back. Once that is taken care of I will see how he does under saddle. I don't have a lot of OTTB experience and don't want to get in over my head since I prefer and like draft ponies... which are only around 14hh... this boy is well over 16hh, maybe even closer to 17hh.

I just looked up the video. Lord have mercy! Sounds like you just got him recently? If so, and that guy's been messing with him all this time the poor horse has to be totally out of patience! And that guy musta been huge if the horse is close to 17 hands! Good luck with him, looks like when he's not hurting any more he could turn into a really good guy.

Thanks everyone. I hope to at least get him more comfortable.

Congrats! Saint not sucker is exactly right! Can you read his lip tattoo? If you can't, you could try posting a picture -- there is a group of OTTB tattoo sleuths on COTH who might be able to look the horse up. From that, you might be able to find out his Jockey Club name and any racing history (if he raced).

He is handsome. And one of the luckiest/happiest horses today landing in a greener pasture. Best wishes.

WOW he is lovely! he did not look at all like that in the CL video.
I like his face. He looks like he is a very happy boy.
Take your time with him, and remember where he came from, Be consistent and firm about his ground manners.
He was probably depressed in his old environment!
    Keep up updated!
