Is the general admission/seating ok? Or do I need a grandstand ticket? And if so, anyone have one to sell?
Admission is free except for Saturday night ($19 for grandstand). You'll have no trouble finding a place to sit on any day/night. If you come in the main gate on Saturday (during the day), you may need a ticket. If you come in through the barn area, you don't. Many people stand by the ringside vendor area and watch from there. The Del Mar National website has all the info http://www.delmarnational.com
Also...the showgrounds are large and considered the best on the west coast (all permanent shedrow barns, large stalls, multiple rings, covered main arena, excellent location near ocean and village of Del Mar). However there's no central place where riders, trainers, spectators can go and socialize, visit and talk horses like at Devon's outdoor food/shopping area, for example.
So....it's an excellent show for competition/horse watching, and as long as you have other plans while in the Del Mar area, you should have a great time.
