I was born and raised in the suburbs of the 'burgh and back in the day it was a hot bed of hunter activity! Danny Lenehan was at Allegheny County Club and his kids ran it for some years after his death. Milt Selznick (sp?) was in the area and a couple others whose names have just vanished from my brain! The WPa PHA circuit was very active with lots of entries even before the 3' and lower divisons. I don't know what happened to it all. guess when the older folks died off, properties were sold off for housing developments, kids lost interest and others left the area. Shame really as it was a fun time!

ok, I have to chime in now I am the trainer mentioned previously who now works at Horse on Course. I trained at Bargee for 11 years, and was Barbie's assistant trainer from 98-05. Yes, Bargee would be a great option for the OP as they probably have the most extensive string of school horses available. Cedar Run (the old SF Ford's) now has a lesson program with a modest string, and Cindy McCullough trains clients there on their own horses, as well as myself. At Horse on Course we are developing a lesson program we started last Fall, so are still building our school horse base. We host several shows on site through the year, both rated and unrated so that's a nice option to have. I would suggest she check all three and see which suits her best. At all three places, the trainers (myself, Cindy, and Barbie) regularly attend rated shows and have clients showing successfully.

On a side note, Hartwood is literally my backyard At night my husband and I trail ride through and the show rings are still there, although nothing else is. The rings are still in great shape, and it's fun to ride around in them and remember how much fun that show was!

vfx111, the dressage barn/ dog breeder/ romra center for yoga, was that north of the city? You don't mean Sonador, do you, in Belle Vernon? They are really into dressage and have a center for yoga adjacent to the barn., though I never knew the owners to be dog breeders.

I was just wondering what happened with the hunter/jumper show that Hartwood Acres used to host, especially the grand prix held on the last day. I also remember going up there to watch a reining competition...

I am pretty sure the dog/horse/yoga center was not far from Dorseyvilleish area. I don't think it was all the way in Belle Vernon but maybe. I didn't have my driver's license yet. So who knows what is where when you don't drive.

I get the impression the Hartwood shows ended atleast 10 years ago. They still do a yearly polo match for charity in the fall.
