Default Branded Holsteiner mare with "L" name. What year birth could that indicate?

I'm just wondering if a branded Holsteiner mare has an "L" name would indicate a certain year she was born in? Sadly her papers have been lost at some point. Sale barn is stating she is 14, but an old owner put on USEF she was foaled 01/01/1996. It's still such a generic date though. Any help tracking down info on her would be appreciated!

Holsteiner's are names with the First letter of their Sires name so that won't help you with her birth year.

Holsteiner colts are first letter of sire names. Fillies/mares are in fact by year. Not sure how many letters get skipped... Seeems like a mare with an L name would be quite old. 2006 was W. 2013 is F so they're getting back to L before too long.
    17 sounds more accurate.

    Thanks!

btw her name is Lilikoi but it seems like her past owners have/could have spelt it several ways; Lilicoi, Lillikoi, Lillicoi, etc.
