Yes, I know that the coupler on the goose adjusts, but I am worried about the clearance between the goose and the truck bed. I want the trailer to ride level and don't want to jack it up so the goose doesn't hit the tailgate.

I like ten inches with the trailer leveled. It seems like nobody knows what level front to back is with a horse trailer anymore. Hook it up, level the trailer with the adjustment on the hitch height pipe, and if not 8 inches clearance, I'd pass. Of course you have to use the trailer jack for fine adjustment of height, and probably have to use your foot on the wrench for the bolts.
