Many in Haiti are mourning... RIP Dr. Keith Flanagan
This was a very bad day for us. One of our Hopital Albert Schweitzer alumni, who used to be seconded to us from CVM torun our farm and veterinary work back in the day and who worked in Haiti for over a quarter century, died this morning after taking ill yesterday.
Keith was here early in this last weekend, healthy and running 80 miles an hour as usual. All Deschapelles was talking about him this afternoon - there is hardly anyone in rural Haiti who doesn't know him. He took care of the campus animals for years after moving on to another posting. Even after passing the lion's share of that part of the work to Dr. Kelly, he still came by to visit and to help out. He got us the first sheep for a microbiology lab blood donor, and he put my elderly cat down by leaving Port at 4am to make it out here and still meet his other obligations for the day. Always friendly, always jovial. He will be missed for a very, very long time in Haiti by the Haitians and that doesn't come easy these days.
