Need Western Riding Lessons in Hunterdon/Somerset County NJ
Long story short, we took in a Spotted Saddle Horse that bonded with my husband who is not a rider. We bought him a western saddle and he's doing his best, but really should have lessons. Any suggestions for a low-key competent trainer who won't push him to buy a QH and run barrels or try reining? He wants to trail ride, but he needs to do it safely and confidently.
She's not in Somerset county--but Heidi Burgman Schock in Wrightstown is EXCELLENT at getting a horse and rider working together. think dressage in a western saddle, and no she won't pressure you to buy anything.
How about a simple balanced seat instructor, an eventer type? A spotted is gaited, if the Western instructor is aiming towards WP that combo will work at cross purposes. A gaited horse rider uses far more contact than a modern Western WP type.
Hi, apprider. Do you mean 7 Springs Farm in Pittstown? That is closer. It's interesting - apparently the horse was trained "english" at one point, but my husband prefers the security of riding in a western saddle (I know, I know). I'll check Lara out, thanks.
Yes, that's the one, sorry for the typos, and her last name is DeLorenzo. Her contact info is http://www.ldhorses.com/ . Don't be put off by the roundpens, rope halters and long lead lines -natural horsemanship stuff. She is not fanatical and does not seem to subscribe to any one brand, rather it is common sense.
I'm not an outlier; I just haven't found my distribution yet!
