Okay folks, let's address the 800 pound gorilla in the room during Every discussion regarding slaughter or rescue.
    FUNDRAISING!!!!
All of these folks who love to panic over slaughter or skinny horses have only one true motivation: Money.
Look at all the money raised by John Holland and his ilk in the name of saving a horse from slaughter.
Look at old Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue and DEFHR who both take-in well over $1 million per year based on pleas that they are trying to rescue horses from slaughter!
They love to squeal about the slaughterhouses, but without the threat of slaughter, they wouldn't be able to send out their sappy, computer generated fundraising brochures!

A recent fundraising plea states that 'We must receive your donation soon! We must not allow slaughter to resume in the U.S. as that would result in increased horse abuse. Troubled owners would rather starve their horses at home than sell them for fear they might be slaughtered!'
Seems those who panic keep changing their angle to cover any possible changes. But it all leads back to "Send us your money!"

That bothers you why? So they make money saving horses. Would you rather they starve the horses because there is not enough money?
If you're going to be angry about using emotional black mail to raise money, then there is a very long list of entities that use even worse tactics to make their sale.

So what if they use it for fundraising...so does AC4H and countless others...the truck is coming, the truck is coming.

That doesn't mean that everyone who is anti-slaughter is making money on it, quite the opposite.

I am wondering because I've known people who have taken very sick horses to New Holland, pumping them full of drugs to disguise the condition.
Just as long as it takes to get from our auction in KW to the s/h in Quebec, so about 8 to 10 hours. Apparently, all the ruckus about BSB has caused one of the "rescues" (but hey, they never called themselves rescues... I guess they were dealers then) to stop posting the horses available through their favourite kb (the one that refused to sell BSB). So, on Tuesday, someone tried to get horses from the dealer directly (two nice stdbds) but by 5 pm, they had shipped directly to the s/h. I guess their paperwork was all in order!!

Even the one kb who used to be "nice" is apparently shipping many many horses directly. Isn't it nice to know that all that paperwork is in order!! yeah sure!!
The system HAS to be fixed. If we can't stop slaughter, we HAVE to pressure the different levels of government to look into the fraud that is going on!

Of course, the fact that the "rescue - dealer" stopped posting is because of all the haters!
For the love of the horses... as usual!

Very few rescues or rara's truly care about the horses in their care. Look at the payrolls at some of the biggest rescues, hsus, etc, etc. The majority of donations go to the leaders and employees of these places. The only worthy rescues are volunteer-based and don't involve themselves in politics. 501-c3 charities are forbidden to play politics. Eventually, that will cause their downfalls. Look what's happening in Maryland right now. That whole situation is going to be on world news tonight very soon!

The only fraud occurring is that by the rara's and rescues and anti-slaughter spokespersons who claim they are 'saving' horses from slaughter. At best, they simply move some horses from a slaughter trip while moving others onto the slaughter truck. Look at the rescues who kill the horses they can't seem to re-home or who no longer bring in enough money in their fundraising pleas. Disgusting that they play the public's heartstrings that way!

You claim that BSB fell through the cracks, but what about those that haven't. For instance, one wealthy rescue claimed that they had saved horse 'A' from the going to slaughter by purchasing him at an auction. And poor horse 'A' had been beaten on the head with a 2x4 which destroyed his eye! And many, many people sent money based on that plea. Low and behold, some people asked questions, and it turned out that the eye was damaged by terminal cancer! Do you think they refunded any of the money they collected based on a false story? Multiply that instance by thousands throughout the country. The real story in all of this is that the rara's want to use the 'threat of the return of slaughter' as their most valuable fundrasing plea. No brag, just fact.

Foaming at the mouth is an adequate description, but somehow we also have to include conspiracy theorist in the acronym as well.

Good rara girl, Laura! Ignore the facts! Resort to your usual name-calling. It is clear that you have no up to date info, just more old name calling. How much of your income results from begging donors?

7arabians, I'm not involved in horse rescue. I don't often call names, but when the shoe fits...

I find it interesting though, that the only time you post on COTH is to promote horse slaughter, to bash DEFR and Gentle Giants and to scream about "poor" Marsha Parkinson.

Thank you for reading my posts, my friend! You make it all worthwhile. Did you hear that the new slaughterhouses will use iron-clad contracts which will not allow any last minute fenagling by you or your rara sisterhood?

I find it interesting (if this is true) that you would be happy that a horse might not be able to have a reprieve? What is wrong with you? Just bloodthirsty?

Did you hear that the USDA has no budget for funding horse slaughter inspections?

Over 100,000 U.S. horses are slaughtered per year. Obviously, that number will increase when domestic houses open, since we have been hearing that the trip to Canada or Mexico is just too far. So, members of your own ranks will begin to ship if it is a short trip.
Unless someone can take in over 100,000 additional horses per year, what do you expect to happen.
The real crime in all of this is that the rescues and 'humane' groups have become rich while the numbers have remained static. Charlatans and ne'er-do-wells abound in the rescues and humane organizations! Look for more 'Rico' prosecutions in the near future.

    Jenn

They had a representative on the Dave Rutherford Show, CHQR, Calgary Alberta from the EU and he is AGAIN in Canada and is studying OUR passport system as they are NOT have luck with theirs.

They do realize there is misrepresentation however he clearly stated to a person who is anti slaughter that it was a number so low as compared to the number of slaughtered horses to not raise any bells nor warnings at the current time

He did say that Bute is NOT truly a problem and he stated a person would have to consume their weight in burgers ALL with high doses of bute. He was asked how possible that was and he stated he did not think it was possible. I asked him if it was a legitimate concern and he stated yes..ALL questions about food are legitimate but he also stated stated that much of the drive behind the attempts to limit equine meat stems from animal rights activists and not from verifiable testing.

I was allowed one more question and asked if they would shut North America out of the market in July and he said, to the best of his knowledge..no. It is one thing to claim all horses must be verified through their passport and that passport must be accurate however he acknowledged it is difficult to enforce when they are unable to do it to their own horses in the EU and surrounding nations who export horse meat.

Why would MORE be slaughtered? That makes no sense, the plants slaughter what they have a contract from a buyer for... no more no less, regardless of the distance.

Actually 7 Arabians is correct. The number of horses imported from the U.S. and the numbers having draft, warmblood and QH which are the most desirable have cut out the Canadian horse.

Therefore they have rendering day..everyhorse going through is only for rendering and this includes TB's horses known to have substances and the truckloads. The number of horses (Canadian) just going for rendering (which is a waste when a person thinks about it) has increased by a high percentage.

    Angela,
Just as the economic crash of 2008 resulted in a building 'pent-up' demand for autos/trucks, so too has it caused a large number of horses in 'limbo'. Owners have been hanging on as long as they could, but new SH operations will see a wave of horses to supply them. And don't worry about the standards demanded by France or Belgium. There is a ready and willing market just waiting for new protein sources. Dog/cat food producers are waiting for the influx and pet owners in America are shelling out billions and going higher! It is a growth industry.
