I sometimes think- why do rescues spend so much money on extreme cases, when the small fortune it took to restore her couldve been used on so many others... but then, when you see her sweet little face... how could you not try to save her? She seems like a very special little girl.
Grif, I totally agree with your viewpoint.
However, it's more than that sometimes. I think these cases are great learning tools for the vets involved. If they can successfully figure out something this complicated, it can only help them going forward. These types of challenges make them more creative and better vets IMHO. So, a win-win for all involved!
