Arrow Spinoff of FPF Ollie thread - Folks against gelding stallions...yes, they exsist....

I have apparently been living under a rock, because I just discovered a new "camp". While knew about the pro and anti slaughter camps, the pro and anti carriage horse camps, there is apparently a group who helps support Camelot Auction Facebook Page, they have all gone mad because the now deceased Ollie was gelded in the past. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but the entire Shire breed didn't hinge on his ability to reproduce....right?

Here's a link for anyone bored:

There's a lot of good clean fun to be had reading that page. Except for the part about how that group has been harassing the rescue that took Ollie in. That's not good, clean, or fun.

It is dangerous to geld an 18 year old stallion, especially one who has been used for breeding as they are very vascular. It has to be done lying down and the vessels have to be tied off.

That page is run by previous COTHfamous poster BayouBengal/Elysian fields(memory lane throwing a dog in the street vs bashing in the head with a shovel/made up "grad" student alter etc)
I don't think it has ANYTHING to do with Ollies status stallion vs gelding. One of the posters on that page , hit the nail on the head when they suspected that the OP had applied and be denied an adoption from Frog Point.

    Grudges its whats for dinner.

That's interesting...I had commented something on that page, and when I clicked the link above from the OP, it doesn't come up, but if I go to my own Facebook notifications and click where i was notified that the page replied to my comment, it DOES come up...

    Does this link work: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Carri...64550006933684

Sorry - I posted the link when I was on my cellphone. Actually, for anyone really bored, all one needs to do is do a Google search for "Carriage horses Facebook"

I have not followed that closely the story of Ollie, but I do wonder what the rush was to geld him. He had so many other issues, why stress him by gelding him right away? A friend of mine adopted a Shire from Lisa a few years ago and she just lost him early this year. I do not doubt the good care Lisa's rescues are given, I just wonder why this was so urgent. In the end, the gelding did not kill him. The previous damage did.
I have no idea if he was difficult to manage being a breeding stallion or if she had many mares on her farm, I am just curious.
    RIP Ollie!

That just looks like someone on a smear campaign.

From what I've seen, I completely support the actions that Frog Pond took in the care of Ollie.

I think I'd be more startled if bayou posted something somewhere that wasn't crazy.

I was banned too. She had posted how her wonder stallion had a stamped passport so he could never be sent to slaughter. All I said was "Of course, because horses with papers and passports are never sent to slaughter..."

Perhaps they just didn't have secure facilities for a stallion long term? I see no problem with gelding him. Apparently he was healthy enough for it, the vet wouldn't have done it (hopefully) if it hadn't been seemingly OK. Breeding stallions should be done in a hospital BUT many of them are not every single day and still only a few have problems.

There is a stallion next door to me. He should be gelded asap. He's OK looking (grey Arab), moves nicely enough but is a nutcase and I have no idea if that is because of his genetics or his (lack of) handling on the way. He's about 14 now, TINY (to me, maybe 14.1) and has never done a thing. Yet he's still a stallion and they WANT to breed him to their 2 cute but lower quality and TINIER mares. Which is fine, their problem BUT this little monster broke THROUGH my fence and chased my mares around for an hour. Luckily they were not in standing heat (OMG, I was NEVER so happy to see mares come into rip roaring heat this month!), he took quite a beating and nobody got hurt or fell into a hole or ran into a tree while they ran around like maniacs in the dark. Now frankly if you can't keep your stallion ON your property, you need to lop those balls off asap. No matter how old he is!

Maybe Ms. Bengal would prefer it if they'd hit the horse over a head with a shovel.
