Low slung heels
Would a hoof supplement help with underrun heels? Or is it more of a hoof trim or genetic issue?

Trimming/genetics issue. Supplements won't help.

IMO the best way to manage underrun heels is to trim them properly. I really don't think any supplement is going to help with that.

It Depends. Even at that, it will only be a secondary/ancillary effect.

Yes, probably to both. Absent photos including radiographs, and a full history, there is no way anyone here can give the kind of information for which you are looking, save to say that all aspects of his management/care have to be evaluated, first individually, then in aggregate, to formulate an overall treatment protocol. And, that protocol should include alternatives .

I agree with Rick. Most of the time it's a trim issue and often related to conformation or genetics. A hoof supplement might bring in faster healthier growth that can help your farrier correct the problem but the main issues have to be addressed first.

While supplements won't help under run heels, making sure your horse is getting enough copper, zinc and amino acids may otherwise help foot quality. I give my horse Tri Amino in case he's not getting enough lysine on his current coastal Bermudagrass hay diet. His feet have more concavity when he's on it.
