We have not spoken since 2005, and I told my niece that if this was the truth, my sister should start with my boys and give them the things that my mother gave to them before she died.

~~ my son got a text from my niece saying my sister would be willing to give my boys their items, but that I have to "turn over" my mother's wedding rings for this to happen.
Your sister made an attempt to make peace with you and your response was "I want my stuff first."

Her answer was, "Okay, then give me my stuff."

If this was about your relationship with your sister, then re-establishing that might have led to renegotiating for the stuff, but not now.

well, it would be a lot more believable if it didn't go through the niece.

Obviously, there is much more to the problem than the flag and the rings.

Right, manipulative people tend to do that.
Hard to believe they are honest when they do that.
We of course don't have a way to know either way.

Plus, as already indicated, the rings weren't part of the inheritance.

We're closing this thread as it's not horse-related.

    Thanks,
