It is, perhaps, flagged so you could potentially jump at an angle?

    Great fun!........to watch!

    To ride?

I have no additional information about the photo. Maybe someone else here does. I did show it to Charles de Kunffy who jumped a lot in his earlier days in Hungary in the 1940s and early 1950s. He told me he jumped coffins like this one.

Is there even a way out if you don't quite make it... Or do they just push the dirt in on you?
What do you think it represents? A house size foxhole from WW1?

    Not a foxhole.

    Trenches. The trenches from WWI.

That is even scarier to think about. The original real tests of real warriors took even more courage than I knew. Wow.

You need Wile E Coyote holding up one of his little signs - "Mother"

    hahahaha! That's awesome!
well, I don't like our ditches because they are lined with wood or concrete.
This one is all dirt. and the out is ramped. Looks like it's flagged so you could jump in as a down bank and then hang a right and gallop up the ramp.

Instead of a running bank...it's a running trench??

It's no different than your horse jumping a giant hole or puddle when racing with friends on a trail ride.
    Be sure to yell, "weeeeeeeee"!
